now i understand abit about blood levels yes they are sign, just wondering about all the fuss of her waiting in to go into hospital....i have an emergancy app monday other then this i know nothing....

The fuss is around your figures which could have been a lot higher. ...

My diagnostic blood glucose levels was 17.1 and I was told that I was a very bad diabetic - a type two, and a lucky one too. I immediately cut out all carbohydrate from my diet for a couple of days, I think - and then ate small amounts of salad for a few days.
Were you told what type the doctor thinks you are?
You being over 40 might well bring a diagnosis of type two as a first guess - have you lost or gained weight recently - had any symptoms?

Given that you're 40 it's more likely to be T2 than T1 but T1 diabetics can and do die if their blood sugars get too high before diagnosis.

Also, your ketone levels would be higher before you went into DKA, but be aware that it can come on fast for undiagnosed diabetics.

ive list 1/2stone so im just over 9 stone, been having issue with lady bits and had 4 thrush treatments and treatment for bv, tired but cant sleep thirsty hunger eating alot at night, taste in mouth, peeing some headaches and eye pulling..

I think that you really should be keeping a close eye on your blood glucose levels - maybe try cutting out carbohydrate from your diet and see if the numbers start to go down.
If you see ever increasing number then you really should go to hospital - you can be very very ill with uncontrolled diabetes -

I agree with you but given @ninaleonard78 has only had a telephone diagnosis then she's unlikely to have access to blood sugar testing equipment. I worry about the real possibility of diabetic ketoacidosis. Maybe go to a chemist and buy some urine testing strips for ketones, if your levels are high then you should go to A&E now rather than waiting for Monday. (Blood testing would be better but you're unlikely to be able to buy a meter from a weekend chemist?)

I strongly urge you to get yourself up to A&E today. You need treatment, you run the risk of collapse.
Doctors do not mess about when advising patients to go to hospital.

Please go to the hospital. If you have t2 it needs treatment today. If it's t1 you literally don't have a minute to spare.

Hi @ninaleonard78 ,

Welcome to the forum.

The "fuss" regarding your doctor's phone call is concern.
Your doc has detected uncontrolled BG levels with the possibility of keytones straying into the at risk area too..

ive list 1/2stone so im just over 9 stone, been having issue with lady bits and had 4 thrush treatments and treatment for bv, tired but cant sleep thirsty hunger eating alot at night, taste in mouth, peeing some headaches and eye pulling..

High BGs at diabetic levels can cause these issues.

Your doctor was correct asking you to go to the hospital.

Good luck.

The 'fuss' is that you might die. Sorry if that sounds harsh but it is a possibility and cannot be denied. If your Dr has called you up and advised you to get to the hospital then my opinion is that you should have done just that. I was similar to you although I had gone to the GPs because I was thirsty/tired etc and showing other signs of diabetes. It was a Thursday, the Dr checked my glucose and it was in the high teens. He said come back Monday to see their 'specialist' diabetes GP. I sauntered back on Monday, levels in the 20s, ketones high. I was rushed off to hospital where they said I had virtually gone into DKA, (this is where your body starts to shut down and becomes very acidic). Spent 24 hours in hospital, came out on insulin. Tests later showed type 1 and I was 56 years old. It is not that uncommon as an adult. At the moment you do not have a clue what your glucose levels or ketone levels are and that is dangerous. Forget work, get some medical advice.

I assumed that as the OP said she could get a test done, it would be possible to repeat it - but visiting a pharmacy and asking for a blood glucose check might be possible - and very advisable...
I think it has been mentioned that Boots chemists do blood glucose checks on request.

the trouble is i dont want to over react, and take up valuable hospital space that is needed by a another person rather then myself, as being a carer for 22years ive always put the needs if others first...its a hard mind set to change, so im thinking right or wrong ive been like this a few months another 24hrs wait will be ok.... but if it was someone im caring for id of sent them in hospital for safety...i know its mind blowing mad...

@ninaleonard you'll end up using a whole lot more NHS resources if you don't go and end up collapsing with DKA and being taken in an ambulance. Everyone here, let alone your doctor, is telling you to go to A&E - just do it
