What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

4.4 for me this morning. I am into another run of nocturnal migraines. I usually wake up with them at about 3am and if I have one I will often have 5 or so on the run. I have not found any particular trigger.
Have a safe day

Aw I'm sorry! I don't have painful headaches, but rather vestibular migraine, where things will swirl around more or less depending on triggers. Eating fewer carbs seems to have been a trigger. The weather is the biggest one. Any change in weather, and I become "very vestibular" as I say. It's possible that caffeine is another one, or it might simply have been the one that put me over my tolerance level. fluorescent lighting is a big one, as is simply being in the dark. If I am out walking at night during a big weather shift, I'm all over the road, looking drunk as a skunk! So far driving not affected by dark.

Evening all. Been a bit distracted, footie wise. Three games, a City double, just within touching reach. So many City disasters over my last 40 plus years of being a Citizen (MCFC speak). Liverpool F.C. has proved a worthy contender, respect to the Kop.

BG 7.5 at 16.30 today. Still breathing.

Morning everyone a beautiful morning up here in the north west. My Fbg was 8.7 this morning and I’m getting to realise in the 8s and 9s are usual readings for me (3 weeks since diagnosed). Have come down to the 7s, 6s and even a 5.7 after meals. Trying hard with HFLC but weekends are blips.....any tips would be welcome

Sure wish I could help! It's been eight months for me, and I only get into the normal range very occasionally. I have to figure out what to eat when, and have not found the precise correct combination yet. Too many variables!

Good grief I am 79 posts behind… Like I even have a chance of catching up with those!
FBG 6.4 0715. This is pretty good considering I spent all day yesterday eating and being extremely stressed, and didn't stop eating until about 10 o'clock. We were returning from vacation, and the last day is always absolutely frantic with trying to get everything done. We had a bus to catch, which would take us to the airport to catch the plane. We made the bus with six minutes to spare which was very scary. I think I walked that mile trundling my suitcase and carrying my overloaded purse, in street shoes, faster than I have ever walked a mile before. Definitely sore once I sat down!

@zauberflote I wake with pain over my left eye. I have not really found a trigger, it could possibly be stress or dehydration or just life. I will get a run of 2-5 and then none for 2 weeks mainly at night I wake about 3am. Meditation helps but leaves me feeling very spaced out - everything seems unreal.
I am hoping that low carb will help too but it hasn't so far.
I trust that you begin to see rewards for your efforts with low carb and your BG readings.

I totally agree about what works for each individual. 4 years ago I would have been amazed if someone had told me I would see body composition stats such as mine today and would have snapped off their hands if offered them. I would not have been so keen had I been told I would feel listless/weak at least 30% of the time or find not eating preferable to having LC food I dislike or find unsatiating. The latter issues have really come about in year 3-4. I would really appreciate hearing from someone else who had "hit the wall" so to speak and successfully come out happy the other side. I am carrying on but it is all a bit grim right now hence the marathon "wall" analogy.
Hello @ianpspurs . Decades ago I lost weight on a Dr Atkins Diet, low carbs regime. I kept to the LC plan even after reaching my target weight. All metabolism indicators good, despite weeks of no further apparent weight loss. This served me well, until I started work for a brewery, chucked Dr Atkins under the bus and ate pies for England.

@OrsonKartt I am loving your success and enjoyment on this journey. I can see it works for you and others - just leaves me frustrated but I am genuinely pleased for those for whom it works and feels right.
@alf_Josiah Cambridge? any reason or just because? It is all push bikes here not motorcycles. Safe journey and return home.

Hello, home sound and safe thanks @ianpspurs and @dogslife .
Cambridge is my last overnight stop on my journey down the east of England and I haven't ridden much this year so I needed to put a long journey in to check my fitness and concentration levels. Total mileage was 235 miles a big change of route on the way home.
Diabetes is a major player in travelling, I almost got caught out in Portmeirion last year I had to eat jam scones and jelly babies to get my levels to a safe number to lead the ride back to the hotel. Riding below 7.0 for me is leaving no safety margin.

I guess I have hit a sort of wall. I sometimes find not eating preferable to having LC food I dislike. For some reason since starting this diabetes diet I have almost completely lost my taste for vegetables, even ones I like. It is partly due to the Meals on Wheels vegetables - they are free but prepared with so many seasonings and flavorings that I can't even taste the actual vegetable. But even regular vegetables that I prepare myself. I just have no taste at all for them anymore.

I'm hoping this is just a wall and I will soon find a way over, under, through, or around it. 'Til then -- V8!

I’ve recently started going off fresh veg as well. But it leaves me with an upset tummy.
I have just recently bought some powdered veg - carrot, spinach, broccoli etc. There is no way I could make a smoothie with it. I would throw up.
But I put a teaspoonful of each in a mug of hot water, and a teaspoon bone broth (very very expensive), and I actually like that that.
It doesn’t upset my tummy at all like the same fresh vegetables are.

Oh and I put a teaspoon butter in as well.

I am not hungry.

@OrsonKartt I’m not quite as obsessional about testing now as I’m much more able to know if I’m high or low. Although I am a fan of a excel chart -other spreadsheets are available - I do keep a detailed spreadsheet which incorporates food . Morning, lunch and bed readings. The weather, if I’m having a good or bad day... a few years ago I was in a cafe and I was testing prior to eating. A gentleman three tables away shouts across the cafe informing me that I didn’t need to test before meals . He only worries about his big tests. Did I mention the gent had just had 3 toes amputated.

@jjraak I’m a big GOT fan too. Sadly Mr C isnt - too late for him as he drives a bin lorry so is up very early. 2 of my daughters are also hooked. I bought us all dragon onesies to wear while watching it at the beginning of this series - we Whatsapp eachother photos at the beginning to show we are ready. I’ll be devastated when it’s finished.
Also hooked on Line of Duty but never got into Walking Dead - all the growly noises irritated me.

hahaha...loving the thought of you all dressed as dragons, feet n legs sticking off the end of the sofa, ala small kids.:D

TWD..growling noises, make it so good..:hilarious:..especially now the whisperers are on scene and threatening..:wideyed:

what it does ..it does well, then just ups it's game and smashes you with an absolute stonker.
last but one was a masterpiece, but best so far for me, was the barn scene with the walkers inside..(nuff said.)

samantha morton..seriously good in the current series, btw.

Late on arrival, but NOT doa..:D

fbg this am was an acceptable to me 6.1..range is coming down after the frippery and joys of being so unshackled in 'not full of preservatives' India...;)

handful of nuts for breakfast then out..

lunch brought forward to 1130 am as hungry.
pre lunch 5.9 post lunch 5.5 (i hr) 5.2 (2rh)....drumstick, mexican spicy cheese, slice of ham, 2 ryvita
pre dinner 5.3..post dinner 7.4..(was large meal, steak veggies..and a few teeny potatoes..()
once again happy to see so many 5's ..:)

i think back on track.

weight from india now gone, 2lbs over 13 stone, so shifting that and hitting 12 stone something..(ANYTHING :D ) is the new goal.

Enjoy the last part of the day all.

off tomorrow, so i'll have more time to catch up with all your fantastic posts.

:)

I can't eat vegetables every day or my tummy would get upset. I don't know if diverticulitis is hereditary or not but I don't want to get it.

Occasionally I will put butter on hot rice or on toast, but I shouldn't be eating it because of high cholesterol.

@gennepher you can make your own bone broth from leftover meat bones. Save them until you have a big pot somewhat full, then add herbs that you like the flavors of, bring to a boil, and simmer forEVER. If you have a slow cooker or a pressure cooker your task can be much easier. Then boil down your cooled, strained results to as thick as you like, put the liquid in small storage containers in freezer, and take one out every so often. Using up leftovers=WIN!

I’ve got this evening’s chicken carcass in my Instant Pot right now, with assorted random bits of veg and peelings. It’s had a couple of hours and I’ll leave it to cool and become flavourful overnight.

Ah. I do have a slow cooker, somewhere. It came free with something and I’ve never used it. I hadn’t thought of doing that. I don’t know why. I often have chicken bones. That would be one heck of a lot cheaper! Maybe tastier too!

Thank you very much!

You're very welcome @gennepher (sorry, my fingers see your cat and want to type "Jennyfur" as we called ours...)
Anything to save a dime!

@Bildad oh my it sounds horrible. I am so sorry!

Thank you very much. I hadn’t thought of making it myself. There is a slow cooker (in the garage somewhere) I got free with something. I’ve never used it. That is brilliant. Going to be much much cheaper than buying. Sounds good.
