My advice would be to see a Diabetes Nurse or your GP. Were you advised to discontinue the insulin by a health care professional? Unplanned weight loss should not be ignored.

Coincidentally, yesterday I was considering starting a topic discussing the opposite as it pertains to ketogenic eating. I won’t go into detail as it will derail this thread, but I’ll be watching this discussion with interest.

Hi @fifi23

Virtual Hug for you

And great point made by @Guzzler

and as for the smell of sweat, not been on insulin, so can't say,
but i've not noticed much difference since DX ( T2D..diet + Met)
( i understand that's not the question, but i just wonder if maybe your just more sensitive to the smell at the moment..? )

Being a sweaty male, i'm blessed that my phereonomes seem to appeal to my missus (go figure  :hilarious: )
but she will occasionally mention i'm not 'quite' so sweet smelling, now and again.
nothing had changed i am aware of, same soap, bathing experience, deodorants, etc.
so we must all go through phases where body odours are more noticeable.
perhaps through foods intaken :bookworm:

hence why i ask if it's possible your just 'heightened' or 'clearer' in sensory perceptions for any reason.
probably isn't, but never hurts to eliminate other possible reasons.

Good luck finding resolution..
( i know i can be embarrassed if i catch a whiff of myself, and no deodorant is available.
hate to think how annoying that would be, if it was a constant, regardless of personal hygiene / deodorants.)

May I ask if you have made any changes to what you are eating? And how your readings are looking, please.

I have to agree with @Guzzler, unplanned weightloss might need medical attention. As for your depression, there is help available. I assume you’ve been testing your blood sugars to keep an eye on things. To make sure it’s not high blood sugars causing any issues. High blood sugars does cause thirstiness. Have you contact your diabetes team? Pester them to have a chat about your situation?

Try not to get too despondent. You have a bunch of friends and kindred spirits in this community. It seems like you should definitely seek medical attention as a precautionary priority, but we are to help in any way we can, even if it’s just to bounce ideas around and have a chinwag.

I agree with everyone who has said that you need to test your blood glucose, and that your current symptoms could be signs that your body is not coping well since you stopped the insulin.
Please make sure you are testing regularly, and if your blood glucose is high, then seek medical attention, whether that is by speaking to your nurse or doc, or by ringing 111 (if you are in the UK).

You are most certainly not alone, we check blood sugars to learn and know if that particular meal or food did our bloods any favours. We all want you to be in good health and happy but can only know that if you are testing to see what’s happening. Theres NHS111 if you need help and highlight and pester that you need help. You can always ask to the practice manager on Tuesday and write a letter of complaint to express the lack of help that you’ve received.

The combination of stopping insulin, weight loss, increased thirst, smelly sweat, is ringing DKA alarm bells.

It's well known that excess ketones can be released in sweat.

Have someone smell your breath - if it has a fruity "pear drop" smell, that is acetone, one of the ketones.

Nutrional ketosis is one thing, whereas ketoacidosis kills and the end stages advance very very quickly, within a few hours.

You already have some of the indicators of early stage dka - weight loss, thirst, possibly ketone sweat - you really do need to bg test. If it's too high, you could be sleepwalking into an extremely serious life threatening condition if you do not get medical attention soon.
