I still think the real cause of diabetes is not food but there are some other causes that we have not found, for example, my father has diabetes when he grows up and has diabetes. Is this problem related to genetics?

Theres a whole range of factors that play a factor in how likely you are to develop diabetes, both type 1 and 2. Nobody has said food is the sole cause. Genetics have been shown to play a big part in the predisposition of developing diabetes.

Nobody knows the exact reasoning for the mechanism that causes it, especially type 1, otherwise we would be miles ahead in finding a cure and understanding the mechanisms.

Food plays a factor, genetics do (family history), Environmental factors can even play a part. Theres a whole host of reasons as to why it can occur, and consequently a whole host of treatment methods depending on the type.

Hello @tuanteo I notice you don't have any diabetic information on your profile, do you have a concern over this being passed on from your father ?

Well we can either live in fear of maybe or maybe not developing diabetes. Or we can do our best to live a lifestyle that would reduce the risks. A low carb diet for sure will only help, type 1 or 2.

Nobody in my family had diabetes, nor parents. But I got type 1, it can happen to anyone, its something I can manage and hasn't stopped me doing anything I wanted.

Hello @tuanteo Without knowing more about your father's condition and treatment, it is very hard for anyone to speculate whether this will affect you or not.

There are many factors to consider aside from genetics, the best thing you can do is to live healthily and to not worry, stress is not helpful to our well being, best wishes.

Genetics plays a big part in diabetes. T1 is difficult because there seems to be nothing you can do about it if you lose the genetic lottery (plus an unknown exposure to a virus and/or a severe health condition). Having a T1 parent increases your risk but you're still unlikely to get T1. T2 seems much more genetically linked, but you can avoid it by limiting carbs.
