What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

@DJC3 just seen the article. You of course shared the content with me when we met early summer but seeing it in print is quite amazing. Paul and the girls must be incredibly proud of everything you have achieved and you should be very proud of yourself. Life dealt you a very challenging hand and you fought and won. I will try to remember that when I moan about trivia. Love the pics of you and Dennis, he is becoming a little celebrity. I wonder if he will get fan mail!

No internet for @ 36 hours and its killing me Haha. Sailing the ocean though so mustn't complain.

Blood sugars doing really well considering I'm on a cruise and I'm not making the food myself. Early 5s and even a 4.8! 6.2 today. Reflecting the last 3 days. No cocktails for me. Hubby having mine! Just enjoying white wine with ice. It's hot!

No chance to read and catch up as sailing out of port to Barcelona as I type. Will try and post some of my blog. Pics will follow.

Hope all is well with everyone.

DAY 1 CRUISE - CIVITAVECHIA

Very smooth transition from our hotel to the ship. Extremely well organised royal caribbean team welcome on board. Official photographer to capture the moment. 'I have my own camera thanks but can I borrow your life size cardboard cut out of our ship?'. I dont think she understood English. She looked at me very puzzled!

Luggage goes off separately and as if by magic turns up at your room. At least that's how it's supposed to work. All luggage arrived apart from our suitcase the size of a bus. I had a few bits in my small case but when the big one hadn't arrived by 6pm (we boarded around 12 noon) we thought Eric was going to have to flounce around in one of my ensembles. I think pink floral would quite suit him but I'm not sure about the sparkly 4 inch heel sandals! Anyway I was about to get my complaints template out when we spotted Cindy our room attendant. 'No bag Cindy!!!'. She was on it like a car bonnet. Within seconds she was back. Our bag had been confiscated! Apparently travel irons are a no no! Anyway all was well again within minutes. But we will be in creased clothes for the week

Tour of the ship to get our bearings. Ok we now know where all the bars are.

Dressed for dinner and arrived in Tides dining room for 7.45, our chosen time. Very posh. Waiters looking dapper. Tables set beautifully. Gleaming glasses. Clothes wise though, anything goes. Even shorts, and flip flops one lady was sporting!

The service was second to non. Imagine how you think the Ritz in London would be and there you have it. We have our own waiters, Marlon and his assistant Fernando. They kept saying "Mr Malcolm' which threw us. Eric usually only gets his 1st Christian name in the Drs surgery.

Dinner was absolutely top class. Enjoyed every morsel of the 3 courses. And the wine that accompanied!

Schooner bar after to sit and listen to the pianist/singer knocking out some great tunes over a night cap and just sit and people watch. Some very lovely outfits knocking about I can tell you

Daily challenge to self. TAKE NO LIFTS. Challenge met. Bit more of a challenge on the way up!!! Steps almost 11,000.

Day at sea otherwise known as wifi withdrawal symptoms day (I'm twitching!!!). Should i pay over £20 for 24 hours internet or give Eric a well deserved break from 'listen to this Eric'. Decided that he deserves at least one day total relaxation on the holiday!

Lie in as no rush to get offshore.....sailing until 7am in the morning. Pulled back the curtains to a breathtaking view. Took ourselves onto the balcony. The heat! The sound of the ocean! And nothing else. Not even a neighbour in site. We feel so lucky to be able to experience something so special.

Breakfast around 9.30. In the Windjammer. Its enormous! Tons of seating and already packed. Food? Everything you could want at breakfast. Freshly made.

We then did a couple of circuits around the ship. My bargain of the century £4 matalani bright orange 'dress' to cover my modesty walking around in bikini. Love the colour. So vibrant. I'm finally our of black and white, all be it part time!

We have spent most of the day in our room. Chilling.on the balcony. It feels like the world has stopped. Loving it. I am waitress today, nipping to bar to keep Eric's supply of cocktails topped up. They are going down very well!!!

There is so much to do on board. But decided to use our balcony. We will be able to play dictionary, do quizzes, swim in a pool etc at home. The balcony might be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Dinner is a dressy affair. Nor quite formal, just wear your best! It's like we are at a wedding. Posh frocks and suits. Its lovely when you get an opportunity to dress up, I feel

I'm looking at Eric's face and wondering if its the alcohol or the sun!!!

What I absolutely love is it's a real international affair. So many different nationalities, cultures, ethnicities all blending together harmoniously.

I forgot to ask for cream with my coffee, the waiter remembered

Stairs challenge- mission accomplished
Around 6000 steps

Today's early morning post. Just docked in Cartagena.

Ok so it looks like the free walking tour is OFF. I've booked for Cartegena alright. But the one in BRAZIL! not sure we will make it there and back in time . only me!!

Prior to our cruise starting I posted this....

Found our ship. Not as big as we expected. And more open plan than anticipated. The facilities are **** cant even find one toilet. I can only imagine what the entertainment will be like on the SS TITANIA. Not one single crew member on board! No wonder it was cheap!!!

So sorry Debs I can understand the disappointment but you have made me laugh

@Debandez thank you SO MUCH for the cruise blog especially considering the wifi issues. It was fascinating and warm (not just the sun) and funny. I keep saying it but you have a real talent at writing to draw you in. I am so glad you and Eric are enjoying every minute. (Just daydreaming wouldn't it be fab to charter a LC only cruise ship around the Med for all of us on this thread!!). Keep having a wonderful time.

Fantastic account of an amazing journey. The vibrant lady in the present day pics is a real contrast to the wine pouring, care worn NHS worker? You are a very special person.

I feel like a different person too, you’ve summed up what I was like exactly. Looking at the ‘before’ photo, OH said ‘next week The Sun will have a headline Champagne Causes Diabetes’

Fan mail for Dennis wouldn’t last long lol - he chews everything. This is a photo of my daughter’s book she inadvertently left within his reach. IMG_0741.jpg

What a courageous, remarkable and determined woman you are, not only putting your diabetes in remission , but also helping others to take control of their diabetes by offering advice to others, oh and Dennis is an absolute bundle of fun.

He looks deceivingly cute, don’t be fooled - he is in a Tasmanian Devil phase at the moment ( bless him!). Thank you for those kind words though.

Thanks all for your lovely comments and replies to the article @Muddy Cyclist @Bubbsie @gennepher @dunelm I don’t think I’ve replied to your posts individually but thank you. Also @ianpspurs PenguinMum @SaskiaKC @johnpol @jjraak @Debandez Let’s be honest it is this forum and all of you here that have bought me back to health. I feel so very lucky that I found it and all of you lovely lovely people. You pick me up when I’m down and I never fail to laugh at least once a day at something on here - the best medicine!
