6.6 is higher than the normal range for non Diabetics, it really depends on what you are eating, meds and weight/lifestyle.

You want to aim to be 3.9-5.4 for a normal FBG, but it depends what your 'normal is' so few more details and see what we can do to advise =D

Excellent news on the weight loss should be really proud of what you have started to do now :)

thank you I have started swimming so that should help! I am eating a low carb as possible. I have fibromyalgia, under active thyroid and degenerate disc in my back so I am not that mobile. I am looking to get a bike once I’ve lost the first stone. food wise I am finding that I am not hungry most of the day now. So it is kinda 1-2 meals daily consisting of bacon eggs etc salad meat Bolognaise with spinach no carbs and chilli with cauli rice. That sort of thing.i am feeling positive but scared I will fall like last time

Hi, Since there are lots of things that affect fasting BG (especially Dawn Phenomenon), I never stress about it.
What matters to me is my BG reaction to my meals and my average BG i.e. HbA1C tests.

Why not just focus on controlling the things that you can control. If you stress about Fasting BG levels that is only going to tend to make them higher- LOL !

Many post their fasting bg levels on dedicated posts.
For the one I use most a FBG of between 4.5 to 6.5 seems to be normal, even for those pushing hard to lower their carbs.

Personally, I think we all have our bodies own personal level that the liver tries to attain regardless each morning, in that dawn phenomenon, that ancient kick start to the day to get us up and ready to go hunt our food.

Our bodies don't seem to trust us to look after it, and has its own self protection program,
Hence how it can give us the DP, and can also resist, weight loss, etc as it adjusts our BMR to suit many differing circumstances

So when fbg is elevated above what we expect I see that as our bodies allowing the excess glucose to seep out of us..

I do know for some who get up early but don't eat, the fbg can start to rise, and it is actually taking in some food, that stops the rise... Does sound counter intuitive..I guess a small amount of food, kids our bodies to think today won't be the day we decide to starve ourselves and try to kill it..:D

Gill - how well medicated is your thyroid? There is a school of thought that many people with fibromyalgia actually are suffering from the effects of ineffectively medicated hypothyroidism.

This is quite an old piece, as the author is unfortunately deceased, but he did know what he was talking about, with htyroids. It's worth a read, and maybe have a look and see how your thyroid results look.

Non-insulin injectable medication (incretin mimetics)
There are lots of tables of target BG levels (including this site), but my Endo advised me to basically remember "5678" as targets.

5 = Fasting BG
6-7 = preprandial
7-8 = 2 hrs postprandial

Your mileage may vary!

Hi DCUKMod
I am not sure about my thyroid. I take 150mg daily which I’m told is almost the upper limit. I have tried to get my T3 tested as well as Tsh and T4 but alas NO is always the answer. They say I am within normal range . I’ve never been happy about my health care regarding my thyroid.

As I understand it, there is no upper limit to Levothyroxine. The average adult maintenance dose is 100-200mcgr, so quite a wide span, although up to 300 isn't unknown. (Various sour spices for that information fro my the BNF, MIMS, Thyroid UK etc.). Doses over 200mcgr often lead to a specialist referral.

The thing is, the hormone T4 is a passive hormone, and works by being converted to the more active T3. Some folks aren't too good a thread that conversion (including me), so need a bit of help by taking T3 directly. Unless FT3 is being measured, there is now way to know if the T4 in the blood is actually doing anything.

If your GP will not test T3, and indeed, sometimes they'd can't request it, but if your FT4 is in range, they don't do the test (grrrrr), the name private tests are available. Medichecks, Thriva, Blue Horizon and MonitorMyHealth all provide variants on the tests, from £29 up to about £100, depending on how deep you want or need to dive.

Just a thought.
