Hi everyone - just a quick question. When should I be checking my morning fasting levels of BG?

Should it be immediately I stumble out of bed, or a little later, post-shower, post-dressing and faffing about? Because it can make a big difference, I’m usually under 6 first thing but when I forgot earlier this week and tested after a shower it was over 8!

I feel like I’m sneaking up on my liver early on and take it by surprise, but if I leave it til a little later, it has time to get its butt into gear and ‘help’ with a fiendish glucose dump. Like a cat kindly bringing in a live mouse, abandoning it at your feet and then wandering off. :)

What is the generally accepted protocol pls?

Hi @TeddyTottie

It really is up to you.

for me it SHOULD be the same regime each day., that way it's the same variables each time.

so i get up, put kettle on
go loo, wash hands.
dry thoroughly, set up kit, take bloods
pour kettle and make tea.
look at numbers.
drink tea.

regardless of what time i wake up.
It is to MY mind just trends i am looking for.
some days it will be high, ( so i check over what i ate /drank yesterday/ did i sleep enough, etc...:arghh: )

some days it's low..so a little dance around the room, punching the air, with 'RESULT...Take that ya B*****"..:D

It's really what suits you best, as long as it's BEFORE you eat or drink anything, imho.

Tip: i was told IF you forget and drink or eat something before testing, if it's less then 5/10 mins still test,
it shouldn't have too much impact, and you'll still have a relevant score.

hth's ..:)
