Sympathies to you all @Muddy Cyclist. This is my concern too. So far mum's nursing home have introduced extra precautions such as requiring all visitors to wash hands in a designated area before entering the main part of the building and isolating and monitoring individual residents in their rooms if they have any unusual symptoms of any kind but I don't think it will be long before they will stop visits as there are so many vulnerable residents. Hard times indeed.![]()
So great that you are doing this. Surprised that you have had to work quite hard to find a way to do it.. First an online place called VolunteerCornwall which is taking names of people willing to help, like in the days of swine flu when we were encouraged to have a ‘flu buddy’. Then a call to local priest. I am not a member of his congregation, in fact I rarely go to church at all but I figured he’d know of people who might be affected. He was very pleased with the offer and said he’d mention it on his rounds
That poor priest must be demented not being able to keep his churches safe.Late in here today. Fbg 5.4
Having tried to offer my services to the local shop and surgery to help out vulnerable people who may be self isolating, and having been met with a very lacklustre response I’ve finally found a chink of light. He was very pleased with the offer and said he’d mention it on his rounds and on Sunday ( not my name and number, just the fact that there was a willing volunteer) he is having trouble at the mo trying to make his churches safe - no sharing of the chalice, no hand sanitiser available for the congregation and no accessible sink, poor chap sounded a bit overwhelmed and is trying to get to see all his parishioners in care homes ASAP before they stop allowing visitors. I feel a lot less frustrated now having started the ball rolling though.
Thanks @PenguinMum@gennepher that is quite dramatic and made me think of Tower Bridge when they had the terrorist attack. Really stirring.
Plus, now I read that I have to keep my cat mentally stimulated for her health -- a different toy every time, a different game every day, instead of putting her food in one dish hide bits of it around the house so she can hunt it ...
So now I have a mentally stimulated cat AND cockroaches and ants?
Maybe I need one of @gennepher's creepy-crawlies pics after all, only I still can't look at them! Although the plane approaching Tower Bridge did give me suitably gruesome shivers ...![]()

I am glad you were able to get the ball rolling. Well done![]()
Morning All. 6.0 today, chicken Tikka Masala from the supermarket to blame! Back on the wagon. Just fed the girl cats and Mr Fuzz so now planning my day with a cup of tea.
Bit of cooking for today and tomorrow, bit of ironing in the mix. Annoyingly have to go back to town due to my watch not working but will be a brief trip, very brief. Other than that have enough food in for a week or more just topping up bread and milk and veg, salad at Tesco Express. Collecting our friend from hospital tomorrow to stay with us for two weeks. Mr PM working from home this coming week so that will be interesting as tv and kettle noises cause great eye rolling.
Whatever you do today enjoy it. Stay well, stay safe.
There is something I have written out and it is always by my bed on the wall so I can look at it any time @DJC3I think a large proportion of the congregations are elderly so even more of a worry. He said he’d come across a prayer recently which talked about bad situations bringing out the best and the worst in people. I certainly think we’ve seen a lot of the worst up to now, but I expect we will hear some heartwarming stories of neighbourliness and kindness as this situation drags on. Much the same happened in 2009 with the swine flu as I recall.
Maybe it's time I read Defoe? I never could get into Robinson Crusoe ... maybe A Journal of the Plague Year ...
Thank you @PenguinMum@gennepher if you need good sanitising gel go QUICKLY to Victoria Health website and order DermaCare. I have just done so.
Alert for anyone interested.
