Covid 19 - are we in high risk?

My husband and I went bulk buying this afternoon
2 chains for the chainsaw ( we have to have something to do when isolated !)
1weedkiller spray(ditto !)
2 jars of coconut oil ( to cook the roast celeriac and swede )
We over 70s are unprincipled

Carol

If we all end up in self isolation in all the affected countries their hospitals in 9 months time will have a baby boom on their hands:dummy::dummy1:

I found out today a friend is going to be a grandparent, for the first time too.

COVID-19 isn't fussy who it infects, whether you have medical conditions or not, aged 49 or 89, or those in between.
Life, as I see it, for now, is a lottery.

I didn't realise there was a 40 year window in the age groups.
I thought pretty much much anyone with a pulse could contract it, pending on exposure?

I'm 66, type 2, heart disease, high blood pressure - should I be staying in?

We all know by now, that the older generation are being hit the hardest. Read my post again, you seem to have missed this.

Hi @Iozy, It would be down to you to make that decision, but have you talked to your GP about your concerns or your employer if you work ?

Yep, did a doubletake & it is still quite possible to live beyond 89 years of age..

Hi,

Here's how i'm handling it.. I had a cold a little while back. The only time i went out was off peak to walk the dog?
Of course, i'm over the cold now.
But what i am doing is distancing myself from anyone considered vulnerable on the "flu jab list?"

To be fair the distancing is what i would have done anyway with any form of lurgey..

Covid19. New territory. What else can one do..

Put it this way. I wish I had stayed home today and not taken groceries to a 94 year old. I now know she has been in contact with someone who's partner has the virus. Playing the waiting game now.

@zand ,

All you can do sometimes, is the right thing..

You have my best wishes.

I'm a musician, most of my concerts have been cancelled but I'm still required to go into a school this week to play for an exam. I don't want to give backword but I'm wondering if I'm being stupid and should cancel.

****** doing the right thing. I so wish I had been selfish and not bothered. Hubby sleeping in spare room now and using different bathroom and working from home.

I don't work regularly - this is a one-off voluntary thing for a kid's practical musical exam and I'm sure my GP has enough on his plate at the moment. I thought here was a more sensible place to ask. I've now made contact with the school explaining my position but without actually saying that I won't do it. I'm awaiting a response.

Thanks all for the responses.

Hi,

I play in two bands myself.. so understand that situation.
Here's a thought regarding the exam. can you not livestream via webcam?

Sadly, no - it's a practical ensemble exam

Thanks.

Is the gen advice to give this thing 7 days?
If you suspect the point of contact, the best option is to ride it out.

Yes. I will be happy if I am still well in 7 days. Not prepared to put anyone else at risk. I have told my aunt's neighbours...by text...unfortunately they visited my aunt on Saturday...and they are in their 70s so they are self isolating now too.

I've been in touch with my doctor last week and he said we are vulnerable. I am signed off to work from home until the end of the month. After the update today I will assume I have to stay in for 12 weeks. Better safe than sorry. Plus my Hba1c is rubbish at 74, so I am probably higher risk.
