Ah well, my brother has got Covid19. So I am in self isolation for 2 weeks along with my Mrs....let's hope we dont end up killing each other.......not with the virus btw

I feel for you Porl,

Here's wishing your crew all the best & your bro a speedy comeback..

I’ve been making the compost and planting stuff on the window sills to give the stored tins some flavour when it’s hard to get fresh veg. Am I being too pessimistic thinking that this is just the beginning? Trying to persuade husband that we really do need to get all the wood he’s left on the veg beds off it, and get those ok-to-plant-now seeds in asap. I even searched the compost bin for some tiny potatoes that were beyond happy eating out and I’ve told them they’d better grow or else . . .
Stay safe and well everyone.
Hope you all mothers had a happy Mother’s Day yesterday. Younger grandson made a no-shopping Mother’s Day present for our younger daughter: sandpaper (homemade from cardboard, glue, sand and a bit of accidental soil) and a teabag. He knows her well. And no, the cardboard wasn’t a bog roll.

@porl69 hoping your brother is one of the many for whom this is a mild illness, and that you and your wife remain healthy.

@Fairygodmother I don’t know whether your pessimism is right or not. I keep thinking about this, I understand that panic buying has stripped the shelves but ultimately we aren’t consuming more food as a nation so unless there is a supply issue (and none of the manufacturers are reporting this currently), once the safety stock is replenished things should return to normal stock levels... but things like bread and eggs are remaining out of stock in my local stores. I’m slightly baffled by this as I would have thought for bread the short life means they’d be made every day anyway, and for the eggs it’s not like the chickens care is it?

Well some of it is people are eating at home more, so they are consuming more groceries and that would include the "daily" things like bread etc. In fact here in the US restaurants and restaurant suppliers have extra stock of stuff because so many have closed through this. A bunch/a lot? of the states have switched to not being allowed to have sit down customers at restaurants. To stay open they have to have take out or delivery.

I know here some of the restaurants that have closed are trying to work with their suppliers to return goods and the suppliers are trying to figure out how to get it into supplying the demand. Not sure how successful that is as restaurants have a tendency to buy bulk supplies.

Morning. Up early to go to Swansea to fit three weeks training into a day and a half for my new patient transport role. I wonder if there’ll be time for much more than “This end of the bus is the front, here’s how the ramp works, try not to die” :D

I’ll admit to being scared now, I’m resigned to catching this thing. Husbeast works in the main Cardiff mail centre, so even if I locked myself away, he’d bring it home. We’ve had long talks about this as a family, and we’ve agreed that we need to do our part to help. Let’s just hope that his very good fitness level and my good diabetes control will enable us to recover well.

BG behaved nicely overnight after a bit of a rise to 9.1 after dinner - I’m not quite sure how I got the carbs wrong for that, it was two baked flat mushrooms with some fake bacon, tomato purée and mozzarella with some French beans. 7.4g but behaved like 12. Hey ho. At least Loop gave me a nice soft landing and I woke at a nice 5.8 :)

Amd I’ve run out of broccoli.

How are we all feeling on this morning of the lockdown? I hope you’re coping well with the restrictions we’re going to have to live with for a while. PM me if you want to chat, or Facebook message for those of us who I’ve connected with on there. Can’t always reply immediately, but I always will. This is going to be hard. Stay home, stay well ❤️

I guess @Marie2 you are right that people will not be eating out and therefore using more at home, I’m comparing with my life where I only go out once in a blue moon but others would eat out more regularly.

Also I would expect as this goes on for the supermarket themselves to be short staffed and slow to restock, just surprised it’s happening already given number of cases etc. But again that’s tested cases, the actual number of people ill or in isolated households would be higher.

I didn’t panic buy last week and only got what I needed but now feel a bit of a numpty because we are running out of stuff that I could have bought then. But then I’d be part of the problem too. Can’t win.

Annoyingly eventful night, went to bed high, changed cannula and took a correction, woke at 2am with a 2.8, treated it clearly too hard and now woke at 10.3

Good luck with your training @LooperCat!

Morning all!

In many ways, I think I'm very lucky - I live alone and have plenty of projects on hand. I'm also happy with my own company most of the time, with strategies in place for the times when I'm not! Almost been in training for all this all my life.

I'm also someone who eats out rarely, and can't think when I last had a takeaway, other than an occasional portion of chips on long walk days, so my shopping habits are much as they always have been.

I am already missing the amount of walking I'm accustomed to doing, though I'm still going out for an early morning walk when it's quiet and people are not around so I will do that for as long as I'm allowed to. Plus when I go to the shops I can justify walking to the supermarket further away to help the walking.

There's been a threat from work of line managers contacting us every week to check on our well being. Whilst I appreciate the concept and I'm sure others will welcome it, I would prefer not to have to do more than answer an occasional e-mail from a line manager who really doesn't get a Japes! Here's hoping that's an option. Also a threat of on-line training courses, oh woe is me.

Morning all. Bg a bit up and down this week, not sure why, but hey it's T1.

@LooperCat I cannot say how much I admire you and everyone else working like crazy in our health service. All I can do is follow the rules, stay away from people and aim not to add to your workload. Sending as many positive vibes as I can that you all stay safe.
