I''m on what I would describe as a moderately low carb diet (mostly mostly less than 90g per day). But today I've had less than 50g so am wondering at what level I have to start counting protein .... Would rather avoid this at all possible but my father is T2 and I've definitely got some insulin resistance.

Advice welcomed.

The amino acids in protein only get converted to glucose if you eat more protein than you need to satisfy protein your amino acid requirements. If you eat less than a gram of protein per Kg of body weight each day, you don't need to to bolus for protein. All the amino acids are used for body maintenance and building muscle. Activity and muscle-building increase this requirement. Bodybuilders eat about 2 grams of protein per Kg a day. Protein is a very expensive source of glucose, so eating more than required doesn't make sense.
