Hi all,
Can anyone help?
My pump canulas keep failing and I’ve been running high numbers for the last four days now. The canulas either cause bleeding and just block up or the insulin just sits and pools and doesn’t have any effect, unless I walk, at which point my bg plummets. But as soon as I stop it rises again. I can’t spend my life walking...
I’m at the end of my tether.
I had the tender 13mm canula from Roche and it worked ok but failed fairly often and was quite frustrating. They’re now out of stock and the 17mm they have sent just doesn’t work at all (4/4 failures)I had a stash of steel ones I tried several months ago so I tried that again but got less than a day before it failed too.i’ve tried every type they do and none seem to work for me.
I tried the omnipod once too and that was incredibly painful. Maybe it was a bad spot but it hurt insanely whenever I tried to bolus. So that was a no go.
I struggle with sites. I have a lot of scar tissue on my stomach, but my legs, bum and sides don’t seem to work quickly, if at all, so my numbers just go up. I tried my arms but kept hitting muscle and again failed after a day or so.
I don’t know what to do. I have pens as a back up but the basal profile just doesn’t suit me which is why I went on a pump to start with. Plus the idea was to reduce the number of injections so I could give the tissue chance to recover.
I’m totally lost.
My consultant at my last appt said for some people they just have scar tissue and that all I can do is keep trying to find areas that work, which really isn’t very useful to me struggling with this everyday. She also was not too happy when I said I was looking to move to a more low carb diet to try and manage the spikes better (it’s not currently excessive but could be lower)
My canula failed again and I don’t know where to try and put one that might work. I don’t really want to try anymore. I’m exhausted. I Have just taken my pump off for now but am very aware I need insulin soon.
I’d call my DSN but they haven’t had any answers for me for years they just reiterate they same old **** and don’t understand why things just don’t work or offer any help. I just try and figure things out on my own.
I don’t even know where to start with going back to use my pens for basal. I tried it a couple of months ago but it didn’t work very well and I was just guessing at doses (been on the pump 5 years).
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How have you managed it?
I don’t want to stop taking insulin. But right now I really don’t know how I’m supposed to take it when nothing seems to work. Thankfully I don’t have ketones so i have time to come up with a plan.
