Hey, I inject before my meals as that is what I was told to do by speacialist nurse. I can spike quite high mind you if I’ve taken it right before eating and it’s quite carby. Consultant said can try up to 20 mins before meal to see if helps, but honestly I’m quite bad at remembering, I’m focused on the meal then how much to dose then inject, fairly close to eating. Read that for the meals like pizza, carbs and fat can split dose, do some at start then 1/2 way through.
Have you been told to inject after meals?

As has been said it can depend on about 5 million different things, I've just moved onto a pump but when I was on MDI, I had to have my breakfast bolus about 20-30 mins before breakfast (and even then that often was not long enough), my bolus at lunch was a few minutes before lunch, and my evening meal I had to have straight after otherwise I'd often hypo before the food was absorbed, and yes as In Response said there are thing that would delay me taking it (lower blood sugar, fat content, not knowing what I was going to have)

When I was on NovoSluggish I used to inject around 30 mins before eating (depending on what was being eaten - a lot of variables). If it was for pizza or rice, then again it would be 30 mins before but with 40% up front then 30% an hour later and the last 30 % 2 hours after first mouthful.
Am now on a pump and Fiasp insulin and can inject on first mouthful most of the time

What fast acting do you use?

Around 20/30mins prior.. Pending on what my BG is, i sometimes might need a small correction too?
However if I'm pretty much in the mid to low 4s with an arrow sloping down I might need to inject anything upto half hour after finishing the meal? (But that's just my basal being a practical joker.)
On the whole I find my novorapid quite responsive..

Hello, I always inject around 10 minutes before eating if my blood sugar is stable. If my blood sugar is on the low side but not hypo i will inject after my meal or if I have a fatty meal like pizza or McDonald's I will also inject after eating as I find the fat slows the absorption of the carbs. I also inject after eating if I have exercised before a meal. Hope this helps

I try to make sure I inject 45 mins before I eat, if I don't I spike! But sometimes it's hard to remember, especially if I am busy or stressed.
