Hi all

For those people who have had covid and high blood sugars how long did it take for them to reduce again ? Or any illness really.

I've only been diagnosed with diabetes 7 weeks ago and had done well to control my blood sugars until now. Only just about got over the shock, now I have got covid so I'm really stressing.

I've noticed today my blood sugars are higher than normal. What point is too high that I need to contact someone ? They are not high at the moment but just panicking! Its only my pre meal readings that seem to be higher at the moment, usually under 5.5 but had 7s today. Post meals ok so far but only a couple of days into covid.

Thanks

Well I have read posts on here from folk who couldn't eat and their bgs got into the 11 to 14 range. I ate mostly carbs as that's all I could keep down. I didn't test regularly as I was too ill but I got figures in that range too. So in my opinion yours are fine at the moment. Keep testing and speak to your doctor if they suddenly soar. Try not to worry too much about them, getting over the virus is the most important thing for now.

My BGs improved after about a month, although they are harderto control than they were pre covid, I stayed at home but did have a bad bout of it. Hopefully with most folk wearing masks now your viral load will be less than mine was.

Let us know how you are doing from time to time.

mine remained in the 9's and 10's for the first three weeks of covid, then gradually went down. They spike for a few days every couple of weeks because I have long covid. Dont worry about the spikes for now, concentrate on resting, keep your fluids up, and hopefully everything will settle down soon. I contacted my diabetes nurse when I got into the teens for a couple of days, and she kept an eye on me until the numbers went down again.

Its good that you are monitoring and being careful. Best wishes.

Thank you for your replies, reassuring to hear they came down again for you so I will try not to stress too much. Sorry to hear you both had a bad time with covid. Mine seems quite mild at the moment but early days.

Hi I started Covid symptoms on 5 Oct Tested positive eight days later! Disnt really know what was wrong with me for a while, just high temperature and crushing tiredness so hope you like me will not be very ill. However, two things, i have had two short relapses of high temp and crushing tiredness and jelly legs last week over 3 days and this week 1 day. Weird. Second I cannot get my BG back into line yet. I have FBG consistently in mid to high 6s when my usual is 5s or low 6s. I have cut my daily carb intake back significantly but it hasnt made any difference. So I would say don’t worry about BG and concentrate on getting over Covid with lots of rest and nutritious food. I wasn’t hungry when I was in tbe thick of it and had lost taste and smell but tried to eat small amounts of LC food eg a couple of boiled eggs, chunk of cheese and a tomato and mug of h/m veg soup. Take care, hope you are better soon,

Edit. Just to add my test took 4 days for a result to come back which is why it took 8 days for confirmation.
