After talking to my Diabetes Nurse, about not being able to control my sugar levels, she suggested switching me from Metformin to Glucophage (?)

Are they not the same????
 
Glucophage is the trademarked name, metformin is the generic name, metformin hydrochloride is the actual chemical.

Some time ago (about when I was being diagnosed) metformin only came in standard release, or SR. If you couldn't tolerate that, the doc prescribed glucophage XR, or extended release. Looks like you have a nurse using old fashioned terminology.

A more continuous delivery of metformin HCl might smooth out bg peaks, but I really doubt it's having that much of an effect, sorry.
 
Sounds like your DN doesn't understand the different names/brands; yes they are the same thing. To help reduce BS you need to adopt a low-carb diet/lifestyle. Let us know if you are slim rather than being overweight.

Yes, gliclazide would make more sense as a next stage T2 medication after metformin. (It stimulates your pancreas to produce more insulin.)
