Good Morning ,
My partner hasn't been feeling too well recently . A urine test picked up large amounts of glucose so he was asked to go in for a bloods tests yesterday . The nurse took bloods to send off and also did a finger prick test which was 12 something (2.5 hours after food) , she repeated the urine test too which gave the same "large glucose" result . I bought him a glucose monitor yesterday so he could do a fasting finger prick test this morn it was 12.2 . He's due to go back on monday to the nurse as his blood pressure was high and to get his blood results she did mention medication to him . what can we expect ?
from what im seeing its pretty likely he has diabetes and if so we would like to take action right away re diet. Ive also looked at pre diabetes my own fasting levels were 7.2 we do not have the healthiest life style and have settled pretty well into bad eating/drinking habits over this past year so any advice re shifting some of the weight and taking control/reversing these levels would be greatly appreciated .
thanks so much L

Hi @Planetmum and welcome!

This link will give you some basic information which might be helpful: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/basic-information-for-newly-diagnosed-diabetics.17088/

The first line medication for type 2 (if that turns out to be the diagnosis) is usually metformin. That needs to be accompanied by dietary changes, which means reducing the intake of carbohydrates. So if you want to get a head start on that, Ikd recommend taking a look at the Dietdoctor.com website for information, ideas and recipes. The same would be very helpful or your prediabetes.

It's actually (sort of) good that you are both on the carb intolerant side, because you''ll be able to reduce your carbs together. It's much easier to avoid unhealthy carbs if your partner isn't scoffing them in front of you.

Good luck to you both

Hello and welcome

I agree with @EllieM it will be easier for you both if you both have to avoid. arbs. At the beginning I certainly suffered watching my family have carbs. I went very low carbs and now miss them a lot less. I still have the occasional day where I miss them but very low carb also cured my asthma which I don't miss.

Good luck and welcome.
