What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

The Toyota Tank - appropriately enough a Toyota Highlander!

Wan aka Hamish took me out to see sunset...as the night fishermen were heading out; then enroute some snaps to where the 2 of us will have dinner before a drive back to the city...

He's been so great - he is over the moon with the new iPhone I just gave him (and a wee thing for his Missus)...least I could do.

He's given me a ton of info for you @gennepher...I'll work on digitising it

Have a great Saturday one and all...

And for those celebrating tonight, including my lovely MrsBRS - Happy Passover - chag Pesach samech ( I don't, but she's tolerated my agnosticism with aplomb for oh so many years) View attachment 48381View attachment 48382View attachment 48383
Thanks @BRSBRI
Give my thanks to Wan and his wife please. I am grateful.

Brilliant photography!

A quick question. How many of you have a partners/family who can't eat the low carb way especially any swaps.? We tried some of the Diet Dr recipes way back and none of us would eat them, waste of time. I'm extreme in that I really only eat salad - lc hot food is a nightmare for me- except for Sunday's. Julie likes Sunday lunch and when there is no lockdown a family gathering for that event is as good as it gets for me now I don't play sport.
I am the only 1 in my house who eats low carb or even healthy - hubby has such a sweet tooth I could never eat all the sugary stuff he eats even before the big D - he is so bad honestly last night he ate 2 packets of white mice - always eating chocolate, biscuits and sweets such as cheesecake etc. and he DOESN'T have the big D - his levels are perfect - as is his blood pressure - so annoying so it is but I have got used to it now and at first he would still buy me chocolate etc (he would say everyone needs a little chocolate) to which I would reply NO you are not doing me any favours in fact are you trying to kill me off - he eventually got the message after a while of me not eating the chocolates and I have even been known to put them in the bin ... that was the early days but even now he sometimes gets me small treats that he thinks are low in sugar (the colours on the packets - green sugarwise) and then I have a look at the carbs and say I can't have it so give it to him - honestly he would kill me with kindness he is such a generous man but really doesn't get it - he does try and is even surprised with things that I can't have such as fish & chips etc. He keeps very active every day and has good genes - lucky man. My mum is the same I have gave her chocolates back before too and she wasn't too happy - people just don't get it and I suppose why would they they don't have the same interest or knowledge that we have. My 2 sons I won't even go there, they are typical young men who love take-aways etc. although when the gyms open they will go from one extreme to the other and I have to admit I do enjoy a sneaky wee bit of their take-away occasionally it keeps me going and before I had the big D I ate the biggest load of rubbish. Sometimes I laugh when my youngest says to me "mum do you want some of this - such as a big pizza and I say I will have the smallest piece to which he replys - yes if you have all of it, it will kill and bury you" so I suppose he understands ... he is such a funny young chap ...

Thanks @Mrs T 123. Sounds like life is hard with all that desire from your nearest and dearest to treat you. I don't have that problem but I feel guilt that we don't eat together. My preferred mealtimes are totally different to Julie's.
Edit: I never "got" pizza, takeaways, eating out, chocolate (mainly) cakes or pudding/dessert so that part is/was a doddle. If you liked some or all of those @Mrs T 123 you have my sympathy.

Wee selection of some of today's adventures. I have a prototype phone which I'm pre-release testing so I'm using all the settings to see how they fare on image rendering. I helped develop it, so I'm very VERY critical

Fish dinner - straight out the Pacific al fresco which was wonderful and now back in my pen at the hotel. Sitting outside with a freezing cold beer (I know, liquid bread) after a great day with Wan the honourary Taiwanese Scot...He has all of our work going forward so the next 10 coming through are all his And very well deserved.

Work day tomorrow from my room - video calls lined up and I can now walk out for lunch, an hour or two taking it all in...sampling some street food and dodging the storms!

22.20 here - another bedtime approaches. The city alive under me, I'm tired but for once, not on edge BG 2½ hours after eating 5.5...this was the justification for the lager for the absence of doubt.

Saturday afternoon will turn into evening and night for all of you...so from 6060 miles distant, have a brill Saturday and enjoy :)

Tbh it's probably easier actually as now I don't even bother with them eating the carby /sweet stuff (most of the time, although I do have my moments) - it did bother me a lot at first but that was about 4 years ago now so like everything in time it has got a lot easier and now I just have to worry about myself which is great as we all eat different food and the boys do different shifts and in normal times a lot of the time not home for dinner so everyone just sorts themselves out foodwise, whereas before I was doing all the cooking for everyone ... (although I usually still have to do the cleaning up!) so easier now just having to sort myself out and at least I don't have the temptation of their potatoes, rice, pasta, pizza, pies etc. and everyone is happy eating what and when they want ... my hubby has told me for a while now (as I used to work full-time) I need to worry about myself which I am now doing as boys are young men and a lot of their friends have moved out but I think mine will be here for a while yet ... no sign of them moving on and as I say everyone does their own thing and that's one thing they can cook good meals when they are in the mood ...I have taught them well ... although I don't let them near my washing machine - I still do their washing. So I wouldn't feel guilty Ian in your shoes what I have found is you don't need to do absolutely everything together in a relationship and I think sometimes doing your own thing is healthy for both parties - it is for us anyhow and as much as I love my boys - my own space has been a big thing for me and them especially this last year. Don't be so hard on yourself, cut yourself some slack and I am sure Julie would enjoy having exactly what what she wants sometimes too - discuss it with her - you will probably find it would suit her too x

Edited to Add - hubby has his main meal of the day from 12 noon whereas I have mine from 4pm.

Also he is a morning person up early with the larks whereas I am the opposite but we are still going strong after over 35 years together ...

@ianspurs @mrst123 very supportive at home. When she makes toast, I'm invariably out or when a big carb treat is indigested, always with understanding. She makes potatoes for herself and cauliflower mash for me; we share 80% dark chocolate squares. It makes it easier - and we have always eaten differently from the get-go anyway before the T2 came along to introduce itself!

Absolutely brilliant photos @BRSBRI
I am enjoying this trip....

Thanks @BRSBRI

Brilliant photography!
He's happy. Remember he's diabetic and has an affinity with all us - you could say he's Wan of us...(Is this the cue for me to get my coat)?!

Great photos - keep them coming - I so need sunshine, a holiday AND a NEW hairdo but I will be happy when I can just go out again for a meal - FREEDOM! not too long now fingers crossed
Oh last time I had a haircut, there was so little left on top they charged me a search fee...short back and a polish sir?

FREEDOM! Remember and get blue facial makeup with a nifty white cross and scream it at the top of your voice with your caber in hand. I know I will.
When I do it, I will let you all know the court date afterwards.

I have always had more of a savoury tooth rather than sweet

What an amazingly stunning place for your dInner later.
It was very nice food too. Not a grain of rice in sight and all T2D friendly. Spicy fish soup with hot chillies was fab. I am a walking furnace at the mo!

Hope all's well.

yeah the toast smell always gets me when the boys make toast - it is hard eh? and yes I used to eat a lot of what they eat, a favourite of mine/theirs used to be mince in a very large yorkshire pudding topped with loads of mash and gravy - heaven in the winter. These days I would just have mince topped with 2 fried eggs and grated cheese on top - I have found alternatives for most things - I do love my food still and if I get a wee bit of what they have if I really can't resist it keeps me going - mostly take-aways which is not a lot of the time. My son has been known to steal a little of my 85% chocolate if he is really desperate but fortunately for me he doesn't like it too much

Memories last a lifetime - the years just fly by - a lot of happy times when kids are young... where does time go

Edited to Add - excuse to give wee popeye a bear hug
Fab painting. Memories...just listening to Barbara Streisand singing away as I slip into my Braveheart onsie before sleep. I think I might have destroyed a moment there. Story of my life, apparently

Wan is yer man - yer new bestie in the big city - enjoy yer wee day oot with him
Aye that boy is the very chap. We were singing aw oor chunes an aw...Fairground Attraction, Deacon Blue, Proclaimers, Hue and Cry you name it the new non identical Taiwan Twins were belting it out.

And then we compared finger stabbings. He was 5.5 before dinner, me 5.7. How Diabetic Man-Date is THAT ??!

Mrs Miggins usually has the same as me but with added sides of potato, bread or rice - no pasta - not really her thing.
Oh! And chocolate and biscuits and crisps and on and on and on and on and on...
