I have been pre diabetic for many years and recent bloods came back as 43 ...however I feel rubbish , really sore tongue , swollen ankles feet and hands...no energy what do ever ..constantly thirsty and up all night to the toilet ...and always hungry even after eating a huge meal about 1/2 hr later I’m hungry again ...so I got myself a glucose meter I’ve tested randomly but not sure what the readings indicate ... before a meal 9.4 upon waking 8.4 after a meal 9.4 random 8.6 ... anybody please explain ‍♀️

Hi.
if you want to measure using the meter.

Test just before eating
Then test after 2 hours.

The rise you would be looking for would be 2 mmol or under.

As an example, many of mine start at 5.5 mmol before meal.
Most end up at 7.5 mmol at the 2 hour mark

If it's above that, I would have a 2nd look at the meal.

Perhaps it was too much food.
Maybe I am more sensitive to some of the ingredients.

That is the detective work we all must do individually.

Some foods others eat without issue, can bother me...and of course vice versa.

If you need some help finding better choices for the food you currently eat, I'd say diet doctor visuals would be a great place to start.
Lower numbers preferable.

Those symptoms are worth seeing a doctor about, rather than just trying to self diagnose diabetes. (Though your readings are slightly high they are not dramatically so.) And illness can push sugar levels up....

if that huge meal contains carbs then yes you will feel hungry shortly after.
What do you usually eat, are you on any medications and have you weight to lose?

Hello and welcome,

The first thing you should do is arrange for blood tests so that you have a starting point. That will tell you whether you have diabetes or not. We can't diagnose here.

If you have type 2 diabetes the following 2 links may be helpful:
https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/
https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/basic-information-for-newly-diagnosed-diabetics.26870/

They both provide a lot of information.

If you have diabetes it is not the end of the world. If you are type 2 it means you have an intolerance to carbs.

Read the links while you wait for your test results. My own personal view is that going lower carb would be good for most people. Since my diagnosis I am so much more aware of the high level of carbs in a 'normal' diet.

Welcome.
