This will depend how their control is generally and making sure they're not going to go hypo, probably worked out on a case by case basis as to what is safe for said child

Hi @jonesmia Agree with @Rokaab their DSN will tell you what this is, it's different depending on time of day,/activity levels etc, there should be a care plan with this information in for them.

That is something between the child, their carer and their hospital team.
Giving general advice on this could cause dangerous situations, which is why this is left to endocrinologists and specialised nurses who know the situation of the individual child.

Please never tell parents of a diabetic child what their child's glucose level should be.

Are there not any guidelines for kids?

A friend's daugther has been diagnosed recently, she asked me this question so I wasnt very sure

I’m confused. Why would they ask you rather than their daughter’s health care professional. It is potentially dangerous for anyone else to answer this question. Please refer your friend to their doctor.

As said it will be very dependent on the actual child

Tell them you cannot answer, you are not a doctor

Goonergal is completely correct here, you cannot advise on this.

Hi,

You friend's child has recently been diagnosed. The mother should contact her health care team regarding managment of night time BGs.

I'm some what bemused as to the reason your friend would ask you & not speak with her doctor.
Do you have a background in any form of medical field or other form of health care, professionally?

Unfortunately there is no one size fits all, just because we are diabetic does not mean we can tell another what they should aim for, a 5 year old newly diagnosed child will have a honeymoon to factor into their condition. Their care plan is agreed with their diabetic team and it tells parents/carers/school what their dosing, targets and hypo treatment will look like, this should be reviewed frequently with their team as they are growing and their needs/requirements will change frequently.

This is what you should tell their parents as it sounds like they are unsure.
