Please don’t shoot me, I can’t help it

I need to feel that I know what I'm doing and keto is another world entirely to me! I need to stay in my comfort zone with everything.
I would completely ignore the keto part, and just keep doing what you are doing.
People can get ketones even if they're fasting for half a day, it's completely normal to sometimes have ketones and sometimes not, and never know about it.

This whole ketosis thing is only relevant if you're actively trying to do so (which you're not). It really doesn't matter whether you have ketones or not, it's not something to aim for, nor something to avoid.
I eat pretty low carb (some days more so than other days) and I've never wondered if I could be in ketosis, why would I?

Thank you. I must sound silly I know, but yes I'm doing well so far on my limited knowledge x

Being in nutritional ketosis only means your body has started using fats for fuel rather than carbohydrates, as carbs are mostly unavailable. There's nothing scary about it, save maybe a bit of acetone-breath and the possibility your pants drop off of you in public. I'm hoping you're not mixing it up with diabetic ketoacidosis...? T2's don't usually get that unless there's a lot going wrong on different fronts, all at the same time. It's more something T1's have to be careful of.
JoKalsbeek thank you for explaining that. Yes I probably was getting it all confused!

A tactic that works is to retrain your taste to savoury. This has a stack of advantages for health, satiety and what your mind perceives as sweet. Importantly cravings all but disappear with the focus going towards looking forward to real food. It is likely other eating patterns keep a part of your system in the sweet category.
Agree. Avoiding sweet things is like giving up cigarettes: in the early hours/days/weeks, when the cravings hit, the idea of ever actually NOT WANTING a cigarette (or sweet thing) seems completely ridiculous. Well, it certainly felt ridiculous to me. Then time passes and before you know it those cravings become rare, then absent. It really is hard to believe that this happens, but happen it does. Which doesn't stop it being tough to start with, of course.

Remember though that some savoury snacks aren't good either, crisps for example are my downfall. I can refuse sweet snacks but crisps...no.

I hope you’re right and my pants fall off in public one day, that’ll make me truly happy and then I’ll be convinced I’m losing weight
