Good morning,
So my first post here. I think it is now or never for me.
Just yesterday I thought I should make it a routine to check my fasting glucose. Luckily I remembered and did one and it was 7.0.
About me >50 y.o. female. BMI of 45, with no previous history of diabetes but have quite a few things going on.

I knew I was at risk, I knew I would end up diabetic if I wouldn't get my weight down and my eating habits in a healthy order.
Due to some severe mental health issues I wasn't able to address my problems but finally now ready to tackle this before I kill myself.

So hopefully able to get some help now and be able to make very important changes to my diet and life-style. Please be kind I judge myself hard enough right now.

Welcome. You are in the right place. No one here will judge you. We have all been there. Have a read of the link in my signature as a first step.

EDIT: by the way 7.0 is not spectacularly high, so if you are developing type 2 then you have probably caught it early enough and will find all the help you need here to poke it in the eye.

Welcome, and you have just made the first step to a new you :) No judgements made EVER on this lovely forum. We have all had a difficult journey and the support is second to none! Read as many posts as you can to get the 'vibe' of how helpful these wonderful members all are. My own motto was 'I can and I will' following devastating issues also Kat-Sugar. Hugs x

I had a BMI of 42 at diagnosis so I know where you're coming from.
All I can say is that by going low carb & losing weight increased my self confidence no end.
It's a powerful feeling to take charge of your health.

Good luck

Hi everyone. I have just stumbled across this sight and looks useful. I have type 2 diabetes and looking for a vitamin supplement to add to the rest of my medication. I used to take vitamin d, which was a tiny dose free on the NHS, but I am now looking to buy some. I have trawled through Google to establish what dosage would be best for my condition however cannot find a definitive answer. Can any of the forum help?

With mental health issues in the mix, it is hard to take a first step. (She said, speaking from experience). And it is especially hard to start taking proper care of yourself. So good on you on both counts for beginning! Welcome to this little corner of the web, and I hope we'll be able to help. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ was written with T2's in mind, and I don't know if you are one or just prediabetic or not diabetic at all, just experiencing a big liver glucose dump in the morning... That's the thing, without a HbA1c there's no diagnosing you (and even so, we can't do that on here, that's what the docs are for). But if you feel unable to get a HbA1c done at this time, you might just want to start eating differently than you have, and check the results. Keep in mind that fasting blood sugars are the last to come down, do it'd be useful if you tested around meals (before you start and 2 hours after the first bite), to see what your blood sugars are up to.

If you can get tested and discuss things with your doc that'd be best though. If you start making changes and get all that done much later, they might miss a diagnosis, which would also mean you'd not be entitled to regular check-ups and such. So if you can... Just get a HbA1c done.

Good luck eh.
Jo
