I absolutely love kaassouflé's and I agree on not daring to try them!
Good thing I didn't have diabetes yet when I swapped my top teeth for plastic :)

It was one of the oddest days, but it was a very good day, all the ridiculous happenings made accepting losing my teeth a lot easier!
I don't recommend eating fries and kaassouflé's after having your teeth pulled though, even if you're not diabetic, no matter how good it tasted. :hilarious:
 
Just got the Scenic back from its MOT. It passed, no problem albeit with a few recommendations on what will need looking at in future. No bill for it yet, but it didn't take all that long, so the labour costs won't be too much.:joyful:
 
Neil's just gone to town to check out washing machines. He can't wait to get a new one so that he is in charge of his own washing (and it won't smell of detergent).
 
He came home with a saleroom model (so a bit cheaper than a boxed up one) Indesit 8kg. It doesn't look too complicated, so I should manage it. No 2 son helped him get the new one in and the old one out while delivering the mail (took part of his lunch break here) and Neil installed it straight away. Just need some washing liquid and he can put some of his washing in - we sent the bottle of liquid we had to DIL and he forgot to get more when shopping. No 2 son will bring it back when he picks up Em on his way home from work.

I like Indesit washing machines - over the years I have had other makes but always go back to Indesit - I think they are a good machine for what you pay for them
 
OK, I'm officially old now.
Had to ask a shop assistant in the supermarket to tell me if the pot of bacon mayonnaise (yes, there is such a thing, I've just tried and it tastes pretty good too!) said 2.7 or 27 gr of carbs.
Turned out the assistant was old too, which softened the pain a bit, so together we asked another assistant. :D

Is that bits of bacon through the mayonnaise or bacon flavouring in the mayonnaise? I like the sound of it and might try to make it when I get some bacon.

I do own a pair of cheap reading glasses, I just never use them!

Earlier today at Lidl, I figured that for 99 cents I only needed to know the carb count, not the ingredients! :hilarious:

7.6% egg yolk
6% fried bacon
vinegar
sugar (2.6 gr per 100, fine with me considering the amount of mayonnaise eaten in one sitting)
salt

I thought you might that's how I put it there for you - this tub will be beside the other sandwich fillers such as coronation chicken, tuna & sweetcorn, cheese & onion, or even plain egg mayo - they are really nice and lowish carb so ideal even for a snack - ask Neil to go for one at the back with a long date as sometimes the ones at the front don't have a very long date on them - Enjoy!
 
I bought some Vitalife soft cheese for No 2 son, who is avoiding dairy products due to his gall bladder problem, so that I could make some sardine and tomato spread for him. It's a little bit sweet so I added some lemon juice. Now although tasty, it is very lemony. I'll get him to try it when he comes tomorrow. Nothing in it that I can't eat, if he doesn't want it.

It's called stock rotation, in larger stores it would not be a problem but the corner / convenience type stores are the ones most like to be selling old stock. I have never checked our groceries to see what the use by dates are on our online shopping. With the turnover the major stores have here it should not be a problem.

I had use by dates on some of my electrical cables so it got used up, no one including me disliked using it as it was hard to feed through holes and conduits.

The sooner it goes the sooner we get to use the good stuff I told every one.

I always check the dates on all my food I buy at the supermarkets - just a habit I have I suppose but probably because I have bought stuff before that didn't have a long date and I have a thing about freshness with food too - the longer the date - the longer it will last and the fresher it will be - is it maybe just me or does anyone else go to the back of the piles and check the dates when they are buying their food - I wonder? :)

It has actually put me off doing online shopping as I hate it when I get something which has to be used the next day or the day after which sometimes I found happened when I have done online shopping tbh it annoyed me - again maybe just me?
 
I do check dates but I buy according to my plans with the food.
If I'm almost out of milk I'll buy one carton close to the date, as I know I will finish it before it goes off and less chance of food waste by not being sold, and one carton with a later date because I'll use it later.
Same for meat and veggies if I know I'm going to use it today or tomorrow.

With soft cheeses like brie, camembert, soft goats cheese, muenster and the like I always search for the ones closest to selling date, as they taste better when past their use by date, saves me trying to wait for them to have ripened a bit.

Mushrooms I prefer close to the date as they fry much nicer if they're a bit older, unless I buy them without a clear plan but just to have them in the house, then I buy the fresher ones.
 
Most our fresh meat come from the local butcher, so that gets put in the freezer so no worries about the date, the bit we get from Woolies gets used first in most cases, stuff like the extra bacon hocks we got during our winter time went in the freezer as well.

Same as fish and fresh prawns.

We eat a lot of mushrooms as we like them sliced up raw in a salad so they are preferred firm, the others can be fried or put in a stew.

My parents told us when we were kids that a lot of beef meat in England came from Argentina and it was better to ear than the local stuff. This was because it took five to six weeks for the refrigerated ship to get to England. It was not frozen but well chilled. So well hung beef for tenderness.

Tinned corned beef from Argentina had a bad reputation as it caused a cholera outbreak in the 1950's in the UK, I was a bit wary about a tin I found in the cuboard that was out of date, it tasted alright and now scours from it in savoury hash.
 
Our supermarkets are pretty bad for selling food close to the sell by date. That's because it takes longer to get here by road and ferry. Usually if food gets as far as one day off sell-by date, it will be sold off for a bit less. Sometimes Neil doesn't notice when it is close to the sell-by date. We are used to the idea of stock rotation - it is used in all sorts of industries - even offices and schools for stationary etc. We also use it at home when storing bulk foods like Neil's soya milk or vegan margarine, which I have to buy online.
