They've accepted my offer of 10 euro's! :)

Congratulations! I see on the E-bay site that the mincers are cast iron. I'm certain that my 2, and the one my mother had, were cast aluminium, which would be easier to keep clean than one made of cast iron. Couldn't put them in the dishwasher, of course, but they pre-date dishwashers and go back to the old days of doing dishes in real soapy water. My mother, as a child, had to grate up bars of strong household soap for her mother to wash the dishes. Happy days.

Just a heads up in the terrine...
It is very rich and has made a lot. We are 3 adults and have had it for lunch for the second day and are still only halfway through it. Boys are having theirs on bread, mine i wrap in lettuce and cucumber as it's too strong on its own.
The cats are enjoying it, but they won't eat the whole peppercorns!
Maybe make a third or half the recipe?

I thought to use a kilo of meat and freeze in portions. The google tells me it freezes well!

Just ordered our xmas ham from the butcher, told him we want the bit it stands on as it's easier to carve, I will not tell you what he said back to me. :D

It's definitely cast iron, it's at least 3 times as heavy as I expected! :hilarious:
But it looks and smells very clean and has very little rust. Bought a loaf of sliced white bread for the first time in years to clean it afterwards, think I'll have a go with some wet bread first to get the possible taste of rust out too.

Got all the shopping done for my terrine. I've read a bunch of recipes and it looks like as long as you use liver and fatty meat you'll be good, regardless of the ratio meat/liver, so I'll just use what I bought: Pork belly strips, pork liver and chicken livers, and I'll try to get the inside as pretty as @MrsA2 's with a layer of chicken livers and pork meat pieces in the middle. :)

Main flavour will be green peppercorns, and my aunt, who's a very good cook told me to add some cognac as well, so I will.

So I'm off to the kitchen, wish me luck!

I've never been an influencer before! It's exciting

BTW, we are still trying to eat it all up in our household. Both boys had some with their lunch, some went into with plain beef minced to make a tasty bolognaise, the cats are still helping out, and there's still slices left!

Very happy to have you as my influencer!
It's currently resting in the bathroom (The only place in the house safe from cats and dogs) with 3 bottles of water on top. I must say it smells very livery throughout my whole house now, so I hope it will taste better than it smells.
A test bit of batter fried in the pan to test my seasonings tasted absolutely fine, so I expect the end result will taste great as well. :)

I must get some chicken liver. At present I only have lamb's liver.
My neighbour is planning to have some of his sheep move to freezer camp because he has too many now he's moved house and has lost some grazing places.
So I was just thinking to ask if I could get some liver when he does to try and make a lamb terrine with it!

I think I need a food processor.

When I brought a piece of my terrine to my next door neighbour today, I asked him about goose livers. Neighbour always gets geese from our local hunter. He cleans them and smokes the breasts. Other neighbour (the one in my garden) gets the legs. And in the future, I will get the livers, as no-one has been interested in them so far!
On top of that, I'll ask garden neighbour for sheep/lamb liver when some of his sheep will be slaughtered. So this means I'll make at least two more terrines this winter, which seems a lot less daunting owning a food processor!

I've never even seen one up close, so I have no idea what kind of thing I need. Apart from turning meat into mash I'd like it to be able to chop nuts and chocolate if possible. And I want it to be very cheap, preferably second hand.

Any clues on what sort of device I need to look for?
