Is it normal to have mood swings, i lose my rag a bit most times, can be easily triggered or it can go the other way where I'm upset low and tired out

Hi, welcome, yes mood swings are common.

There are other reasons for your symptoms, are you married? Lol just playing, my wife says she can tell when my sugars are high because I’m even grumpier than normal grumpy.

Thankyou for relying, im just coming to terms with it even though i was diagnosed nearly 3yr ago. Typical Man in denial, the Neanderthal in me i guess

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it I guess.

I think knowledge is power, learning about it can be very motivating, keep reading and asking questions, sounds insane but diabetes can be positive, managing diabetes means being healthier by accident.

there are so many theories about mood changes.
But, through my own experiences and many hundreds of blood tests.
Both men and women do suffer in varying degrees due to hormonal response to situations through the day.
What you eat, what you wear, what time of the month, your stress levels, anxiety and so on.
if your hormonal response is out of kilter, the change in your mood will alter.
So if your blood glucose levels go higher because of insulin resistance, that imbalance will not improve your mood.
There are s o many hormonal responses to just eating, it is a difficult task to diagnose which hormone is causing the mood swings.
Mind you, my footie club, will almost certainly be the reason for my mood swings most Saturdays.

Thanks For All your responses, seems its a load of **** according to my partner about my mood changes being more often due to the diabetes so, upwards and onwards we go!!!!

Not everyone understands the effects that high (and low) blood sugars have on temperament. Just because someone doesn’t believe you doesn’t mean it’s not true…

getting angrier on high bloods is something I have personal experience of and I was an absolute nightmare. My father also had the same

I know feeling hangry has impacted me, but low bloods isn’t something I generally have but believe being too low also impacts mood

There have been studies. For example:

I think her assumptions are because my stepdad is type 2 and he is always chirpy, I've never really been one to be like that but, she reckons/thinks I'm using the type 2 as an excuse for me being moody/grumpy

Well it’s not one size fits all. He could have totally different blood levels, they could be controlled, or he just doesn’t have the same reaction. I have also been in a situation where people have said similar, that bad moods aren’t a symptom even when I know they are. Didn’t help my mood that either at the time :banghead:

So, I saw in another thread you are getting a meter, hopefully that and any ways you are looking to address will being the bloods get under control and help you feel more like your old self!
