Two Questions.

Morning All,
I’m seeing lots of adverts for bamboo socks that help with neuropathy. My initial reaction is that they won,t, but has anyone tried them or anything like them?
My second Q is regarding CGM’s.
I’d like to try one for about a week to see how various things, food, exercise, stress, etc, affect me.
Is there a way to get one for a short period of time?
Is there a recommended CGM?
Do they have to be expensive?
Is what I’m suggesting a reasonable idea?
Opps, I think my question count went up a bit there, sorry.
Cheers Nick

Hi,

Sensors. The cheapest one to my knowledge is a Freestyle Libre 2, which can be bought over the counter at a pharmacy & lasts for 14 days.
If you have a compatible phone? There is a free app that compliments this from Abbott.
Or you can down load a 3rd party app like xDrip or Diabox on your device & go for the full “CGM” experience..?

Hope this helps.

I can’t help with bamboo socks as I don’t have neuropathy. However, I do have some lovely JVC seamless work ankle socks that are the best thing ever for me with long days on my feet.

I must admit I'm sceptical about special clothing for diabetes but perhaps some have found they work. I would suggest trying the Abbot Freestyle Libre 2 Flash Glucose monitor. They have a free trial for the first unit which will last 2 weeks. I went for that a year ago and then funded further units but more recently I now have them on prescription. The Libre 2 is not a true CGM as you need to place your phone or their reader near to the sensor using NFC to get a reading. It does however send alarms via Bluetooth. The Devcom G6 is more expensive but is a true CGM. I think they also do a free trial. See the websites for both companies

The bamboo socks are good for getting rid of moisture , I believe they helped in my case getting rid of a fungal nail infection but I can't really see how they would help alleviate neuropathy .

If you have diabetes and are based in the UK, you can still get a free trial of the Libre. Check out their website for details.

My T2 dad swears by them partly because they don't have seams and partly because they help keep his athlete's foot under control.

I tried that way back. & was politely refused the trial. I’ve since got funding last year.

My earlier post suggests one can “rock up” to a pharmacist counter as I did to obtain them. (In my case Asda after filling out a VAT exempt form.)

but thanx for the kind advice..
