What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Thank you Alf, and everybody who has wished us well.
We are hoping for the best and that the op works out ok.
It is problematic, they apparently can't use the usual tools that employ radio frequency cauterisation due to the proximity of a pacemaker.
Have a good day all.
Derek
I'm sure thery have ways around it. They didn't always have radio frequency cauterisation so may be ble to employ older technology which won't bother your pacemsker. Best wishes for the op and a hug for the anxiety.

Morning all.

Yes, you heard that right....

C3PO, as my nephew jokingly called me, due to my 'interesting' walking style months after the accident...

Has returned to the Rebel Alliance and become a tax payer once more .

A phased return, admittedly (thank goodness ) and very welcomes, as I was cream crackered at the end of yesterday.

Going to have to work on that stamina .

And in a week mentally designated as LIFE 2: The RESURRECTION.

I gingerly rode the surviving scooter across town for its MOT.
(Intention was if it failed as expected, to SORN & leave off road at a friend's garage nearby )

The expected failure (head bearings) appear to have been a more fixable, ( by me anyway ) uneven wear of a perfectly good tyre (sat for a year unmoved )
Potentially it may even out if ridden more regularly..

So getting away with just rear brake pads was a BONUS.

Clutching a new MOT certificate and now taxed & legal once more I proceeded to try and enjoy the return trip.

Can't say that part was so successful.:(

The extra wariness post accident clouded the pleasures I took from riding previously, but it did have enjoyment of the ride, was safely undertaken, with no close calls or scares of any sort.

A challenge undertaken
AND I'm calling that a WIN, for not being beaten by it.

So I feel I'm finally out of the woods, leaving the trees & bushes behind me.

Taking my bearings now, as I look across the wide open plains once more, and set out to find my own path back.

I realise I am no longer lost.

I'm BACK...

Best of the day to you all.
Strength and stamina will return but it does take a long time. My brother is still bemoaning the fact that he lacks the stamina to undertake any but the simplest of jobs around the house (minor DIY projects) or to walk very far, after his major heart surgery last April. He can't measure the improvement because he wants to do more all the time, but he has made major strides. As have you. Every step forward is a step towards recovery and back to normalcy.

Keep up the good work and keep lreaching towards that open plain in front of you.

My mother has covid. Spoke to her early sunday evening when she sounded very frail, but said she was merely very tired with a bit of a cough. I was not surprised to hear that she had been very unwell in the night. Calling both my sister and the paramedics who gave her oxygen and wanted to take her to hospital. However the paramedics eventually decided that Mum had improved significantly and should stay home so long as she was not left alone. My sister has stopped with ger for two days and my brother is going to be there tonight. I have been told very emphatically by my sister that my presence is not neccessary. Am wondering if she thinks MrSlim and I brought the infection? Despite us having recent boosters and no symptons. I suppose we were careless in that we didn't test before visiting her. Yesterday was Mums 91st birthday, but of course the celebratory lunch had to be cancelled.
Mum did sound better yesterday, but there are too many parallels with my Fathers situation last year for me to be reassured that she really is recovering. Daily phone calls don't seem enough.
Sorry to hear that your mum is suffering from Covid but happy to hear that she is a bit improved now. Good to know that she won't be alone.

Did anyone else test before visiting your mum? It doesn't seem to be a thing that people do these days. She could have caught it from anyone or anything so I don't think you should worry too much that you didn't get tested before visiting her - you still don't have any symptoms, so wouldn't have been "shedding" the virus. If your mum has had her vaccinations, that should have prevented the virus harming her too much.

Time for a cuppa.

Have your best day.

Weather app says rain, but I have ordered sunshine...

Another very realistic sheep, with wool long enough for 2 cats to hide in. Great image.

Your garden sounds lovely. Snowdrops and yellow crocuses - spring is definitely on the way.
Snowdrops didn't survive here but crocuses did. However they're not showing through the ground yet. I was surprised to see some montbretia shoots about 2 inches tall under the big fuschia bush in front of the house. They are usually later than this. Everything else has been blasted by the wind and cold.

Good morning everyone from what just might be another sunny day here in the dark and dangerous north. Book sorting. That’s the phrase that may or may not describe today’s activities. Two boxes of books have been brought into the dining room and placed upon the table “for you to sort out”. I did of course open said boxes and have a peek inside. Treasures. This will take some time but that copy of The Catcher In The Rye is going to need another home. I shall spread them out first so that they don’t cause any trouble or wander off. Lots of books crowded together can be dangerous. Art bit, just some coloring in to do now, probably this afternoon. Have a smashing day if you can. Say ‘champion’ when something nice happens. It’s pronounced ‘champ-yin’ and you will need a flat cap. Now, where’s my koffy.

Enjoy that book sorting @dunelm
The pile of keep gets taller and taller ...
Enjoy your colouring ...

Morning each from a sunny area which defies any suitable description except the counterfactual. There will be trouble ahead, well light rain showers and sibling rivalry over what to watch on the main TV. No 1 grandson is on a tight (ish) leash after parents evening and what goes on tour mustn't stay on tour. Thanks for the splendid and very realistic sheep and cats @gennepher. @dunelm what percentage of books retained will not incur the wrath of she who must be obeyed? Many thanks for sharing the splendid art which will obviously be miraculously transformed to even greater majesty and grandeur by the addition of colour. Snowdrops and crocuses make me "homesick" - I don't have the motivation to make water flow up hill here anymore. @Annb hope you managed to procure an appointment today. Deal with the snakes and ladders of Wednesday with as much dignity and love as you can. How many of you are actually Team Jorge?
Thanks Ian ..

Thank you @Annb
I could take up spinning then ...
MIL has all the gear. She would go through the whole process from buying the fleece to knitting finished pieces. She gave demos in schools and country shows until her 90th year. She found it hard to admit that era was over. The battle over letting the hardware go will be epic. Wish JKP well but I suspect Nos 1 and 3 sons will be more brutal if the need arises which positive viewing feedback suggests it may do soon.

Here's a question for all you drivers.

Is this clear, what you are expected to do ?

Imagine, strange neighbourhood, late at night, checking sat nav for guidance, Yadda Yadda Yadda.

Hint, pick wisely, Obi wan.
Cost is £130 for each incorrect answer.

Oh, and look forward to all the joys it brings .

it's so successful, friends can no longer get deliveries or Ubers to the street, the council's financial gains are too great for local businesses to bear.

So, if it's just your street ..sit back and enjoy the peace & quiet.

But when it's in every neighbourhood, welcome to 'Cash Cow'
The game where everybody loses.
And you may not even know you lost until that "pay up or else" demands drops quietly through your letterbox.

Local main roads stuffed with ALL the traffic, because only locals can use side roads.

Pollution increases, so say hello to your local ULEZ Zone.
(New cars only need apply.
T&C's WILL fluctuate.
Expect a lowering of car age before banishment applies.
EV's not guaranteed to be exempt )

It's not about pollution is it.
No one wants EVs using side streets as rat runs as well.

Your borough.
Doing the thinking for you
So you don't have to ..
At a price ££££.
Very odd. looks like it’s telling us that vehicles over 2.2m wide are forbidden, everyone else, passing left is compulsory but you never know nowadays.

Em stayed the night, since her school is on its half term break. Went to bed early for me, bit late for her and she fell asleep almost immediately. So did I, but I woke again around 1 am and had to get up to ease the back and knees. As a result there was no meaningful FBG. Yesterday was a bad day and, while BG is a pretty normal level (7.5) I am feeling pretty dodgy. Vegetables eaten yesterday are tormenting my insides - that has been an issue recently so I went a few days without veg to calm it down and then tried again - same result. I really don't get on with veggies. Trouble is, that leaves me just with carnivorous foods and dairy. It is a bit of a problem but I'm sure that there is an answer somewhere. Don't suppose there is any point saying to the dietician that I can't eat veggies - she'll have a fit, poor soul. Bad enough no fruit and few carbs. Where will I get my fibre, she'll ask (I think fibre is the problem, in fact). Where the vitamins, where the minerals? In a bottle, I suspect. Wouldn't mind not bothering with veg, although there are some that I like and even enjoy, but just meat, cheese and eggs? If needs must, I suppose...
There is an enzyme called raffinose and you may be intolerant so maybe check that out. Could also be short chain carbohydrates as they can cause bloating and nausea in some people. Have you tried FODMAP and an elimination diet to see what works and what doesn’t?

Unfortunately at our local hospital if procedures are required for individuals with pacemakers their usual solution is to switch the pacemaker off for a period of time so Judith informs me.
