Type of diabetes

So, I have hust been diagnosed with type 2. 53 years of age. Living in the UAE for last 10 years. Bit concerned about the lifestyle change but I'm sure I will get used to it.

Discovered something was wrong as I had rapid weight loss. 15st all my life down to 13.5st in just over two months.

Welcome to the forums Marc.

Have you had any tests to determine which type of diabetes you have (there are several), or did the doctor just assume T2 because it is the most common type? (which it definitely is, but weight loss has some red flags for T1)

Also, do you know your hba1c? What medications are you taking?

I agree with @EllieM that it would be worth exploring whether the doctor has tested to ensure you are type 2 or another type.

Having been diagnosed is a lotto take in. You spoke about lifestyle changes-do you have a meter? If not I highly recommend that you get one. A meter is the tool that will let you know what effect any changes you are making to your diet are having on your blood sugar levels.
