What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good afternoon everyone on quite a bright and warn day so far here in the dark and dangerous north. FBG this morning when I eventually got up was 6.2 - pretty good after what I had yesterday. Afternoon tea came and went and The Girl In The Bubble (now called The Queen of The World) had a marvelous time. To cap it all, I had a brand new Revlar inhaler to open this morning. One piece of packing fell on the floor: “what’s that Grandad?” Said GITB - “it’s called a desiccant.” - “A deskiccant - that’s a hard word to say, can you say deskiccant Grandma?” Into town for a late breakfast this morning - drugged up so walked back OK encouraged by GITB in her Grandad powered trike. Art bit, something new and a photo of yesterday’s tea that @gennepher requested. Hope your day is going well, too late for koffee now.

Yesterday sounds as though it went very well as does the walk today - wonderful question by TGIB. Thanks for sharing the latest art and the photo of the afternoon tea. Here's a photo of the only piece of LC baking that has ever worked - 7 years ago today. These days we don't always make layers but ganache is a must. Cake based on this but frosting is very much on my NOOOOO list. @Annb I hope tomorrow goes splendidly but take the prep steady. Surely your brother has come to see you not to test your culinary skills?. Kudos for making shortbread for him. Rolling pin collected. Was in a gigantic box full of bubble wrap and air bags. Customer services woman undid box. kept plastic and box - thanks. Oh, turns out pecans may not be great but I can live with them mixed with walnuts and hazelnuts - something of a revelation.

Thank you @ianpspurs. Interesting recipe, have downloaded it to give it a whirl. Like you, frosting will be sent to Coventry. What great service, taking all the wrapping off your hands.

I am pretty sure my new inhaler is Revlar. Dry powder. Once a day @dunelm

Great Art bit.

I am drooling over that afternoon tea...
And thank you for letting me see it, and smell the chocolate.

Thank you @gennepher and yes - Revlar, once a day dry powder. I have been on the lower dose (92/22) for a few years but am now on the higher 184/22.

3 am. BG 7.8. First cup of tea. Tried to get back to sleep for half an hour from about 2.30, but gave up, so here I am. I wasn't going to bother with those scones, but since I'm up anyway ...

Lots of leftovers will be available to be taken home by Alistair, I daresay. Wonder if there's anything on TV to keep me company for an hour or so before I can start making noises.

I could always read. My friend called in yesterday in the course of a driving lesson for a refugee she has befriended and brought a couple of books from her late husband's collection - Canterbury Tales for me (I have a copy of it somewhere in its original mediaeval English but this is a translation - much easier on the brain) and a Times Life book about the Amazon for Em. It's time I read Chaucer again. Old Geoffrey could tell a good tale.

Always annoying when you wake in the middle of the night and then can’t get back to sleep.

Good morning everyone on what may, or may not be a day of drizzle here in the dark and dangerous north. Weather forecast and peering out of the window are currently at odds so just have to wait and see. Up on a ladder yesterday inspecting the gutters. The do need a clean out. Didn’t attempt it as doing a job like that requires a co-pilot to steady the ladder and give instructions such as, “don’t lean so far out you silly sod”, and “if you fall off you will damage those roses.” Watched the concert last night. Pretty good I thought. Katy Perry managed to stay within the confines of her outfit, interesting choir and some useful propaganda going on for Mr Sausage Fingers. I hope the pair of them do some good. Art bit, slowly moving forward. Hope you all have an advantageous bank holiday. I shall drink koffy and do some exercises.

Last time I went up a tall ladder, nearly 40 years ago to paint the attic window, I had to abandon the job as the ladder did the wall slide dance...

So you be careful @dunelm or pay someone else...

Sense won't prevail will it?

That Art bit building needs ladders to repair it....

Blood sugars this morning were 5.3 again.

Now I think Charley boy, as I call our new king will start to show his true colours. My personal feelings those who harm the new environment will be in for a shock.

It’s time to get on with living my life in my disreputable way, while wishing you all well.
Stay safe all.

At long last!
I will just keep doing what I am doing...

Wildlife nighttime videos.
Cat, Midnight, in bad mood with Fox & Badger all through the night

Cat Midnight is defending the wrong place, he should be guarding the new cat flap, not outside on the swing so zealously. The tin foil bowl of wet food, and the tin foil bowl of dry food had completely gone. Not just the contents, the whole bowl as well. Cats don't carry whole bowls of food away. Not one bowl was spilt between where they were picked up nor when the animal negotiated the small cat flap (I had installed a small cat flap to deter woodland creatures...). And outside the kitchen door, there was no sign of these tin foil bowls. Who or what? I think something has a growing family to feed. But who would be cunning enough?

Finally I closed my mouth, my jaw had dropped seeing this.
I need a new trail camera...or two. One on the swing doesn't always work properly.

Midnight is still guarding the dry cat biscuit food supply on the swing. The stray cats are allowed a small feed each, and then he narrows his eyes as if to say enough, leave now. I can see all this from my bed...

Oh dear, black cat Amy has just come into my bedroom, jumped on my bed. First time she has done that. She is very light footed, unlike Midnight who's power in his paws leaves bruises on my legs.

She wanted me to follow her into the kitchen, so I did. But it wasn't food she wanted. It was as if she wanted me to see her guard the inside of the cat flap. It's like she's set herself as the guardian of the inside of the cat flap...

I smell trouble ahead. I left her to it...

They are cats, let them slug it out. Midnight has brute force, Amy has cunning. She is a fraction of the size of that Puma like Midnight, but she is not scared of him.

The animal soap opera continues...

Creative, was of my clematis flower, but although it was a lovely beautiful delicate painting, and I liked it very much, but I decided to work on it with the same technique as I did with those latter ghost lighthouses, and I am absolutely delighted with the result. Why am I so delighted? It reminds me of the paintings on cotton black velvet I used to do. And I always loved doing these. I need to track down some more cotton velvet..

I have a problem, I need at least 7 of me to do everything I want to do in a day...

I need a nap and a cuppa...or rather cuppa then a nap.

Changed my mind, making a coffee with double cream...

No one told me it was a bank holiday today...but what difference does it make to my life? Absolutely pouring out there. I have a four inch paddling pool outside my bedroom door...or rather a 4 inch moat...it'll drain away as soon as the rain stops...no sandbags needed...

Have your best day...

Well ... I didn't. Just kept going to get my disastrous house as spick and span as possible. Now I'm in agony and will take some pain killers to keep me going. No call from my brother yet, but the ship was supposed to anchor at 6.30 this morning.

STOP PRESS. My brother just called from the ship. The water is so choppy that the captain is advising that nobody with any walking problems should even try going on the tender to shore! And it might get worse on the way back. We'll have to wait and see if they can get off. Heartbreaking if they can't.

I've always called him Charlie Boy.
According to my Ancestry timeline (I found this out a few years ago), King Charles the Second, hanged my ancestor, a learned judge who apparently was responsible for leading the court when King Charles the first was found lacking in many aspects of kingly behaviour and was executed. My learned ancestor was buried in Westminster Abbey for this service to the country. But when King Charles the second came to the throne, he took revenge on my learned ancestor, and had him dug up out of Westminster Abbey, and posthumously hanged, drawn and quartered at the gallows at Tyburn....

So when Charlie Boy was given the title of Charles the third, somehow that didn't feel a good omen to me. I don't know why, but my heart sank. The previous Charles were not good kings, and really Charlie Boy should have been given a different title as king. They always say misfortunes come in 3's.....

Carry on your disreputable days @alf_Josiah
Enjoy your multiple lives to the fullest.

Oh @Annb so disappointing.
I hope the weather settles enough for him to be able leave ship.
Fingers crossed for you xx

Morning all on a poignant day for me. The dambusters was so important to me on Saturday as dad loved that story, he did his NS in the RAF. Ten years ago today both my parents died - dad was a shock. Both seemed normal when I visited as usual the previous evening. Mum's carer couldn't get in so phoned police. They gently prized open the patio doors and found him dead in bed. She was taken to the local hospital by ambulance but by the time I had travelled to thier house, finished with legal business and got to the hospital she had also died. Doctors ushered me into a room so it was obvious Parents (and mine at the time) doctor was convinced mum had consciously decided to join him. He could see no reason for her to die from his latest visit. Difficult having MIL here and not thinking wish they were here. Whole armour of God needed but I'm only human and as Leonard Cohen says there is crack in everything (man made). A day that will always remind me that things can change in a (lack of a) heart beat. I took early retirement as soon as possible. So, an early start and drive out to their grave. Wet grass, beautiful sunshine, memories. Interestingly, I met a man who had been a professional boxer, excellent cricketer (played with dad, myself and my son) and footballer now shuffling along with a walking stick - very sobering. Son and grandchildren will be round later plus I will have my coronation quiche - salmon and asparagus, obs. @gennepher great news on the lower fbg and thanks for the creative. @Annb I hope your brother manages to see you.
