Is anyone watching the programme on the "Skinny Jab"?

Just watched on catch up, what a load of sensationalist journalism. I’m just cross that this program will just generate a growing number of people who want it and make us diabetics struggle even more to get our prescriptions filled :(

I saw it too. Thought it was a bit more balanced than some, but can still see lots of people won't heed the warnings. And sad too it didn't highlight the problems not having it available on prescription for those that need it.

Made me glad I'd found low carb. Long may it last, please

@AndBreathe thank you I spotted this heads up in time to watch this on plus one yesterday evening
Interesting but my hackles were up at start when presenter listed all the ways you could lose weight and said "and even fasting " with a shocked look like it was really out there as a method! I find it interesting that she was glib about fasting as I know that I and many others find intermittent fasting combined with lower carbs work in a similar way to this new supposed wonder drug in helping the body to regulate the appetite and eat less. plus after hearing about this drugs side effects it's clearly not the easy route to weight loss.
Like @Rachox I was also annoyed to see the hype 're it's quick weight loss effects and the knock on effect of depriving diabetics of a drug that many find helps them manage their condition.

Haven't watched it but will do. What also gets me is I have to bust my guts with diet and exercise etc to remain at a certain weight and control my bg as best I can. I think the fall out from taking these so called skinny jabs, will soon be evident with side effects and who knows. They should only be for diabetics on prescription and not for celebs etc. Rant over ;)

I don't have TV or anything like, so haven't seen the programme, but.....

I'm a simple soul and can't see why the drugs companies aren't just making more of the drug.....conspiracy theory anyone, or do they not need any more money? Most companies seeing a silver bullet would simply go into 24/7 production, hire more staff, expand the premises. No doubt I'm missing something obvious.

It isn't always that simple to be honest.

Anyone who was around at the time Abbott launched the Freestyle Libre will remember the frenzies then, with waiting lists, and sensors selling for silly money on eBay and so on. Things find their level over time.

I think we've got to remember we've got to remember this was a piece of journalism, not medical journalism.

If we cast our minds back to some of the stuff by the Van Tulikn twins and others on diet and lifestyle matters, we know there is a lot of scientific/poetic, or whatever sort of license involved in these things.

I have concerns about the widespread use of these drugs, even for those loving with diabetes. If the proposal is they would be considered where lifestyle changes and Metformin have failed to return satisfactory results, I feel concerned that some will just not want to bother with the hard stuff of modifying lifestyles and sticking with it, and just carry on as they were until the silver bullet comes into play.

Boris Johnson wrote a piece a few months ago about using this class of meds to drop some weight (after his Covid horrors), but gave it up, because he just couldn't live with the side effects he experienced.

What concerns me most of all is that when the meds are stopped, appetite and cravings flood back, potentially leading to weight regain, sometimes beyond the starting point.

It'll be interesting to keep an eye on X and so on to see medical responses.

I started to watch the programme, and got as far as the clinics she went to (don't want to say too much to spoil it for those who haven't seen it). It was making me angry so I stopped watching. Have to calm down to see if I watch the rest.
