Tablets (oral)
I was diagnosed type 2 12 years ago and none alcoholic fatty liver disease 25 years ago.
I failed my annual HbA1c (63) this year and the last 3 years. I decided that it was time to change my diet and drop the evening snacks. My GP has elected to put me on SGLT2 inhibitors to help reduce my blood sugars. which I've been on for 4 weeks.
I've lost 7kg in the the last 7 weeks I'm now concerned I my be losing to much weight to quickly.

Is the rapid weight likely to increase my risk of Ketone acidosis?

I've been taken off them now and just on insulin, but when I was on them I lost around 3kg over my 3 months of using them. Your weight loss sounds quite high, and I think with any unintentional weight loss you should probably have a chat to your GP?

Thanks for the help.
I am trying to loss weight I was just concerned that I'm obviously burning fat at what point is it to much?
My BMI has gone from 27.1 to 24.2 so I'm no longer over weight but on the high side of normal.
My eating is probably more habit than hunger. Having broken the habit I'm reluctant to go back to evening snacks.
I'm taking no additional exercise but averaging over 10000 steps a day at work or over 5 miles a day and 20+ flights of stairs. but next week I could be desk bound for a month. It's difficult to eat appropriately not knowing which situation I'm going to be in in advance.

Hi @Simon Farmer and welcome to the forum.
You don't say how you have change your diet. Yes you weight loss is a little higher than the NHS advises, but only marginally so - their advice is between 1lb and 2lbs per week versus your 2.2lbs per week. The 1lb to 2lbs per week is quite a normal weight loss for those adopting a Low Carb way of eating (without calorie restriction) alone i.e. no additional diabetes or weight loss medication.
There are potential side effect of both dropping Blood Glucose levels too fast and of losing weight too fast. In the case of Blood Glucose it is the risk of blurry vision for some weeks as the eyes struggle to adjust to the rapid BG changes. In the case of weight it's the risk of longish lasting loose skin.

Many people on Low carb start to worry that their weight loss will go too far, but it tends to slow down and can be adjusted to a desired weight by adding a little of more highly calorific foods (or even some more carbs if the Blood Glucose is sufficiently low.

I notice that you don't mention your Blood Glucose numbers, so I assume that you have been advised to do this blind. Rather kike driving with a speedometer which only gives a reading once per journey.
Many people find that using a BG meter to test their meals and their progress is a good way to manage it rather than waiting months from one HbA1C to the next before finding out you any changes are working in practice.

I haven't been testing BG for several years so all my stripe were out of date.
I had a scare a week in on SGLT2 (reading 3.2 with out of date test strips) spoke to the GP and he's issued new strips but have only tested once to check a no prick watch BG meter.
Proved the watch was a piece of C**p although confident that my BG is ok reading 7.7 2hrs after eating dropping to 4.8 before meals.
Sorry my machine still works in mmol/l
