I’m confused - the link takes me to a newspaper called the Calgary Sun page about some politician in court?

Yeah, that'll be it. Definitely not the fact that red meat is commonly served with more carbs than you can shake a stick at - steak and chips, lasagne, spaghetti Bolognese, chilli and rice, burger in a bun with chips and a sugary soft drink, beef curry with rice, naan and poppadoms....and the list goes on and on and on.

Definitely that pesky, carb free red meat that has an extremely limited effect on insulin response! :)

Edit - On a serious note, I should probably add that I'm not on some crusade to defend red meat here. However, I find it difficult to see how over a 30 year period, a study could eliminate all other contributing factors for a condition where the complete range of causes and condition onset/development aren't fully understood.

I’ve just been watching a YouTube video on this by Dr Ken Berry. He says they handed out a questionnaire asking people what they ate 2 years ago! I can’t remember what I ate last Friday! Not very reliable plus the study was lead by Dr Neil Barnard who advocates a vegan way of life. I’m not attacking anyone who chooses to be vegan but not an unbiased view IMO.

Can you post the correct link please @Pura Vida - thanks :)
I believe it's probably this one:

I must confess, I saw this recently and I didn't read beyond the article. The study was questionnaire based, which makes it questionable in terms of rigour in my opinion. Beyond that, the article itself contains the line "The study can't prove that eating red meat causes type 2 diabetes, but there appears to be a link."

@Pura Vida - Please correct me if I'm wrong and I'll happily delete.

Agreed, it was featured in the Guardian earlier in the week.
A quick check, not controlled study at all. Just questionnaire every couple of years about how much red meat you ate, never mind what you ate alongside it!

Reminded me of my dear old Dad, when asked by HCP how much alcohol do you drink and how many cigarettes do you smoke?
He was liberal with the truth to say the least!

Oh that “study” it’s done the rounds a few times I think - I’ve seen it every so often

I think this is the story - it's been mentioned on the forums before:

As usual, the webmd story doesn't quite get it. And the 'link' to the published research just takes you back to the top. This is a retrospective look at a considerable amount of information that was being collected anyway, not particularly for these particular purposes. While there may indeed be an association, as the article says, that does not imply causation. It is possible that people who ate more red meat also ate a lot of sugar, heavily processed food, or Omega-6 oils, or drove Fords. Some of these, or possibly a combination, may be the thing that contributed to more people developing diabetes.

In other words, the claim that red meat causes diabetes cannot (despite what the article says in its headline) be inferrred from the data.

To be fair, the article does say "The study can't prove that eating red meat causes type 2 diabetes" but then goes on to behave as if it does.

Very frustrating, all links to "the study" in the article appear to lead back to the article. I'd like to read the actual scientific study please.

The laugh emoji was because it reminded me of my dad! The whisky muted the pain x Doctor agreed in the end!
