Has anyone forgotten to take their testing stuff out with them when driving? If so what have you done about it? I’m just asking as I’ve forgot bring mine to work so can’t test before I leave work.

Hi,

I tend to have my kit together then I throw it in a bag before setting off to work.

However, how far a drive do you take from work, home?
Do you wear a sensor, & if so, did you check calibrations with a meter before leaving for work?
Is there anyone at your home who could run your meter over to you?

I have my meter in a small make up bag then when I use it before work I put it straight into my work bag. Today is an extra shift so I totally forgot to bring it. I don’t have a sensor and nobody can bring it to me.

Can you walk/bus/get a train/taxi home or have someone drop take you home to collect your testing kit, or failing that buy a new meter within walking distance etc?

@Sarah69 do you consider yourself hypo aware?
Whilst I would not encourage anyone to break the law, I think there are times to be pragmatic.
If you are confident with your hypo awareness and are not driving far, you need to ask if you are happy to take the risk that you will not be involved with an accident where you will be required to show your BG.
Another option is to pop to a pharmacy and but a cheap kit.

Glad you actually said that..

Back in the day when I passed my test, all you needed was with the fitness to drive was hypo aware to the point you didn’t pass out & have a “history” of ambulance blue lights… & the legal requirement regarding eye sight. (just pee sticks in 1986 for me.)

Not that I’d ever recommend breaching the legal obligation now signed with the DVLA (every 3 years max.) regarding & associated with the road traffic act.
But I would take a snack (regardless of the guestimation of BG.) & cautiously do the needful. If stuck like that.

& I’m a regular “boy scout” for every eventuality… including a motor vehicle breakdown.

I had a day like that where I forgot my Novopen as part of the “bundle.”
I was hungry all day apart from a (welcomed in this case.) basal low?

I was wearing a sensor at the time saw the low coming… Confirmed with a finger prick.

@Sarah69 - Do I remember that you work in the NHS? If you do, would you be able to use another meter, and maybe take a photo of the result? I know that's not the best option, but it might be something.

(I'm not suggesting you pinch Mrs Miggins' kit, but more if the ward, or department has a kit for general use?

Sorry, if I got my wires crossed.

Yes you’re correct I work for the NHS in a hospital. If I’d of thought I could have used my wards meter but didn’t even tho k of that at the time. I just drove home, I’m only 8 mins away anyway.
