@shelley262 - I just read your post on the trials and tribulations of the M6 and Manchester Airport. Glad the made the flight. I used to be able to get into Manchester Airport in a hurry, but last time I was there, it had changed so much, I was glad we'd taken National Express from Chester, then a shuttle bus to the Hilton in the airport. Accidents on the M6 were a way of life for me when I was working. Manchester Airport gave me some unusual moments too. Once I was taken to one side by security because I'd tested positive for explosives!! I'd been doing presentations in Stockport Round Table premises, so I was pretty shocked I'd tested positive. You know you're going to have issues when 3 approach you with swabs, latex gloves, and clip boards! As it turned out, the positive swabs were due to dust in my bags from the demolition job going on at home with our extension being built. The fact that there was something explosive in the demolition dust wasn't inspiring, nor was the fact that I got pulled at security for the next 6 months ( and I flew a lot for work!)
Gosh thank heavens this didn't happen to them ! They definitely wouldn't be on their flight.

Looks like no sun today but dry, so I am going to tackle the garden again! Two days in a row, crikey - but rain forecast for tomorrow of course!

Not sure whether to do OMAD again or not, I think I may have some pork puffs and cream cheese early afternoon and crispy chicken thighs for tea (dinner for those not from the north of the UK!)

I don't have a dishwasher and living on my own means I can leave dishes in the kitchen for a couple of days without having to clean up, I do rinse/paper towel them so no food going bad or anything, and stack them at the side of the sink. Today is dishwashing day though, so I am going to go and get on with that!

Hope everyone has a good day today x

Morning all. I'm just glad to be back on the Forum! Yesterday when I came on, I couldn't post any comments or post any emojis to your postings. It just said 'reply'. I was completely cut off from the Forum. It said my password was wrong, so I changed it and here I am! I was really upset because it was so confusing and I'm not the sharpest knife in the box where computers are concerned. So all's well that ends well. Cottage pie today with veg. :)

Yesterday I worked on yet another ship (owned by yet another neighbour, you must be thinking my life revolves around my neighbours with how much I talk about all my different neighbours :hilarious: ).
The kluiverboom, which is the 12 m long wooden thing sticking out at the bow, has been shortened to 10.5 m, so the net below the boom had to be adjusted as well.

I worked together with the skipper, first laying out the net in the exact shape it will have when attatched to the ship, and then lots of puzzling on where to cut, splice and knot.
The lines of the net were very tightly twisted so the splicing was very hard. (For splicing, you must open one of the 3 strands of the line so you can stick a strand through, but with a line this tight, opening it is an ordeal.)
It took us 6 hours, all in all, but we managed to finish the job! :joyful:

1713698608555.png

1713698881265.png

An unplanned evening ith my neighbour followed, including a sleepover.
I was a bit higher before bed than the day before, so I pulled the same trick with the crisps but with only a handful of them, and it worked again!
We were both very tired, so this time it was mainly a very long night of sleeping together, no other activities.
Which means more data on the lows! :joyful:
Sleeping together still dropped me in a way that wouldn't have happened had I slept alone, so the effect must be caused by touching or by feeling completely safe and relaxed, and not by any 'exercise'. I'll add my findings to the thread I started on the subject, this is getting more interesting by the week!
It's only N=1 but I think it will be rather hard to find a large group of diabetics to replicate my experiments. :hilarious:

edit: Look how similar my graphs are for friday and yesterday!

A winner as your work is so impressive but you also made me laugh out loud with your idea of finding a large group of diabetics to replicate your experiments.

I'm having a great day, I have to come in to rest every so often but I'm really getting stronger and have a bit more stamina now. The sun has been out so I've really enjoyed that - hope you are having an equally great time in your garden!

I ended up having some scrambled eggs about an hour ago, and a packet of pork crackling. Still in ketosis though, and I think that is what makes activity easier for me at the moment.

Great to read of the way things are gong so well at the moment and of all the work you are getting on boats. Tom used to do quite a lot of fancy ropework and showed us how to splice all kinds of rope, from thin to big heavy ships' ropes. He had the patience to do it - I didn't. Some of those ropes had to be prised apart with a big spike thing to make the join. Very hard on the hands.

Quiet Sunday. Meant to do so much but, as often happens, I just kept falling asleep. Even now my eyes are very heavy and gritty, as though I haven't slept for days. I used to sleep all night, like a log, and wake refreshed. But then, I haven't shared a bed with anyone (other than Em occasionally and she needs a whole double bed to herself really) for about 20 years. Not much use for your experiment, I'm afraid.

Egg and bacon mayo for breakfast with 10u of insulin. Brought BG down a bit but not as far as I would have liked. Later, I'll see what slow cooked lamb leg steaks will do.

I had a great day in the garden, after cleaning up in the kitchen.

Today's food:

10am
Glass kefir

1.30pm
3 scrambled eggs with butter
pork crackling

5pm
2 crispy chicken thighs
Greek yogurt and cream

That's all for today, I think.

@Annb sorry to hear you're not as energised as you'd like - have you had your B12 and Vitamin D tested? I had a very low time two years ago in the midst of caring 24/7 and my GP found I had virtually zero Vitamin D! I had a course of very high strength capsules and that perked me up.

@Annb - how are your legs? I've been back and forward between the two threads and can't seem to find a progress update (although I'd guess it would have to be here).

Thursday 18 April bed 7.9 FBG 6.5. School is going fine, but I just can't shake this annoying cough. Hubby read out an article about a 100-day cough that is sweeping the UK. I dearly hope it doesn't last that long!

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with ham and mustard. Benecol dairy free.

L. Nothing

D. I really didn't feel like eating much, so I had a couple of chicken drumsticks. Gin and soda followed by a scoop of Halo Top.

Friday 19 April - bed was 7.5, but it shot up to 10.8. FBG recovered to 6.9. Once again, the cough caused issues. I don't feel very unwell. It is just this annoying cough that appears, then disappears just as quickly.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with tuna and sweetcorn. Benecol dairy free.

L. Nothing - half day Friday. Boys wanted Subways (as did Hubby). I got home after that to tackle a mound of ironing.

D. I did a version of the chicken from the Tapas restaurant, but more LC. I egg'd the chicken strips (which I'd seasoned first). I then dressed them in my favourite mix of golden milled flaxseed, almond flour, and I added sesame seeds. I usually add parmesan too, but that wouldn't work with this. I fried the strips in a wok in groundnut oil (about 1ins deep). Drained onto kitchen towel and into a dish. Finally, I did a mix of Skinny Food Co Honey, with some SRSLY sweet chilli and grain mustard - quick 30-second blast in the microwave and drizzled it over the strips. It was not bad at all! Batter would be better, and I've found a Keto batter recipe, which I'll try next time.

Gin and soda.

Saturday 20 April - bed 8 FBG 6.9. It was another poor night with this cough. I hadn't managed to do an online order, so I had to go shopping.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with pate. Benecol dairy free.

L. On return from shopping. 2 chicken drumsticks with a mug of Marigold vegetable boullion. I was hoping it would help ease this cough.

D. Just cold cuts again. Ox tongue, corned beef, German mini sausage, ham, pork and egg, coleslaw. Gin & soda.

Sunday 21 April bed 8.1 FBG 7.3. Another night interrupted by this cough. The youngest grandson was back to swimming lessons today, and the coach had this bug, too. Like us, she can not shake the cough. Tomorrow I must remember to book in for next week's Aqua. They've been closed for a refurbishment and I've really missed it.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with pate.

L. Nothing - at swimming lessons, then had to go get the remaining things I needed for the eldest grandson's lunches next week.

D. A little bit of experimentation. I'd taken duck breasts out of the freezer last night. Scored the skin and rendered the fat down (seasoned them first). I learned recently that if you put them skin side down in a cold pan, then the fat renders better and doesn't burn. About a couple of mins on the other side (they were quite plump), then into an ovenproof dish. I already had potato dauphinoise (Hubby) and celeriac dauphinoise (me) cooking in the oven. Before popping the duck in for 10 mins, I drizzled a mix of Skinny Food Co Maple Syrup, tamari soy, squeeze of lime, over the duck breasts and sprinkled with sesame seeds. A cobette on the side. This worked really well. I did reduce the mix first to make it sticky.
Usual campari and soda.

That's me back up to date thankfully.

Maybe as you are having blood tests done you could ask them to check your D and B12. If really deficient they would prescribe and those specific supplements are quite small so may be more palatable than the big multi vitamin tabs. I take a D3 and K2 combined and it's tiny but the K helps the D to be absorbed. I also take b12 as a tiny drop under the tounge. Worth you checking those specific vitamin deficiencies.

Sorry, I shouldn't have used the word "unfriendly". The thread hasn't become unfriendly at all (that's just my rather tired feeling coming into play). What I meant was that it seems more sparse and not actually as friendly/pally as it was a while back. No problem with that, but if the chatting can carry on on this thread, I'll be happy to use it - probably, I must admit, in preference, but that's just me.
I agree. I had a lot of catching up to do, so I posted quite a few on the other thread. I've posted my BGs alongside my food for years as it helps me to keep them together. However, I found myself wondering, "Is this OK?" Or if I'd been fiddling about with a dish to make it low carb, is it OK to post what I did to the recipe and whether it worked or not. There's the added issue (as someone already mentioned) that the meaning doesn't always come across as intended in the written word, and you can end up feeling like naughty children in the head teacher's office (I'm spending a lot of time with teachers!)
I got what you meant, and you were right. It is sparse when you are constantly wondering - is this OK? As I've said already, we've been here before. More than once, to be honest. It was zauberflaut that had the idea to set up this thread, following one of the last interventions. We did investigate changing the name of the other thread, but it wasn't allowed. I don't think any of us were too sure what to do with this thread.

I've tried the sparse, food only entry on the other thread and it is nothing more than a list. If I am constantly wondering is it OK, then it's easier to move over here where it is OK. It's difficult enough to stay up to date with everything else I have going on.

This is not a protest. It just makes life easier for me posting my BGs, food, recipes, and tips all in one place.

PS @jpscloud - I am the opposite to you. I never liked fish (especially fish & chips). I love fish now (especially fish & chips) since I worked out the LC "crumb" and celeriac chips!
