"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

It sounds as though the weekend with your aunt is going well, Antje. You will both have a happy memory stored away for future use.

I've been having a few carbs the last few days. Not excessive for most people but for me ... Not the best idea I ever had. I'm blaming this cold, making my digestive system play up. I just feel the need for something a bit more starchy/stodgy. Nothing desperately out of line though - a low carb wrap, some RyVita, some low carb rice. All low but not low enough. BG has been in the 7's and more for the last few days (apart from the early mornings when it has been in the 6's). That's even with taking insulin again before meals. Recently it has been set in the 5's and no bolus insulin.

Breakfast was cheddar cheese melted onto RyVita and a cup of coffee.

2nd meal will be the last of the vegetables I cooked 2 days ago with some added tomatoes and some low carb fettuccine.

Not going to worry too much about BG. A bit more concerned about my weight, which has gone up again. That always happens when I eat any starchy carbs.

Did have a couple of biscuits and an icecream, only ham and eggs otherwise all day AND resisting alcohol.
Well something in there made me sick. Was not good at bedtime and and thought today might be worse, but have fasted until just now.
Some gentle gardening then a trip to camp to help them pack everything away and bring it back.

Had hardboiled egg and some nuts. So far so good

Yes, indeed. Hope this break with your aunt, away from it all, has been therapeutic for you too @Antje77.
Thanks everyone (again!) for the lovely messages!

And yes, despite lack of sleep, those two nights away from my usual social environment did wonders for my mental state. :joyful:
I do love my friends and neighbours, and I'm very happy to be there for them if needed, but it was a bit much last week.
The weekend was perfect to wind down, adjusting my pace to my aunt's, no other obligations but having a good time, which we very much had!

Tomorrow I'll have the neurologist appointment because of the left arm which doesn't work as it should. Very curious and slightly worried (I stupidly did the google thing) on what this will bring.

Morning all, hope everyone ok. Week flew by again. Very nice day out in London. Recommend Kiss me Kate. Even hubby who doesn’t really like musicals enjoyed it. Was payback for me having to endure all the football, was slightly tense in our house last night!
Week of being put through my MOT this week. Eyes today,Hba1c Weds and my bowel screening kit is on it’s way, what fun! Been very good food wise. Did try one of the M and S high protein salads,a naked chicken katsu, 9.3 carbs, very filling. I will try to recreate at home.

Good luck with your MOT. kiss me kate sounds good we are going to see Hamilton in a few weeks.

Hope today goes well, Antje. Maybe it will be as well to get that arm in order first and then think again about getting a job.

Had scrambled eggs for breakfast. Have to have a think about a 2nd meal. Haven't taken anything out of the freezer although there's plenty in there. Feeling more like something cabbagey though, so might go down that route.

Thanks again everyone!

First I had an appointment with an intern, long list of questions to fill out, followed by touching my nose, pushing and pulling, reflex testing etc.
Back to the waiting room while she discussed with the neurologist, followed by a second round of pulling, pushing, pinching by the neurologist.
First thing the neurologist said when I came in was: "This is really strange." Not necessarily a thing you want to hear from an HCP, but glad she thought my really strange arm was a great learning opportunity for her intern. o_O

The cause is not clear, but she did find some more muscles in the same region that aren't functioning as well as they should. :(
Possibly a trapped nerve in my neck, possibly diabetes related nerve damage, possibly something else altogether, so more testing will happen in the near future.

I might want to start looking for different types of jobs. As it is, I can't even put a full electric kettle on its station without help from the other arm, and nothing in the appointment suggested that this problem will solve itself any time soon.

So more job suggestions are very much welcomed!

It's shredded white cabbage with some chopped onion and small diced carrot to which I am about to add some bacon (back bacon, which was all Neil could get for me so will have to add some butter at the end). Then a little chicken stock (at least something from the freezer). Unfortunately the cabbage had a blackened area near the middle so I had to cut that out and then shred the remainder to blanch and put away (more to go into the freezer).

Sounds a bit perplexing hope you get the additional testing soon to see what's causing it as it's clearly disabling for you. It would be good if they could find something that could be treated.

Just posted food for today in main thread. I bought an easy cook meal from Waitrose for the meat part it was delicious and low carb

Pleased as they were in three for £12 range so also bought some meatballs for a quick meal tomorrow and have put another pork medallions in freezer. Pork was generous for two of us.
I've also boiled and cooled down some hard boiled eggs to take with me on an outing tomorrow - we are going to Chester for the day and with an early start missing breakfast so will be good to have in my bag! I've also buttered and packed a low carb roll.
Looking forward to lovely day out tomorrow.

Woke at 1 and 3 and 5 and finally 7, no idea why!

Breakfast 2 slices livlife bread toasted with cheese

Exercise class, sadly poignant as our fit slim teacher has 2 different cancer ops in the next 2 weeks, then radiotherapy. She has a skin cancer spotted in an appointment for something unrelated then a breast lump found in routine mammogram.
Last class for the summer as she hope to be back teaching in September.

Lunch was 2 MS crackers at 5g carbs each, with a new ( to me) mild blue cheese Montagnolo from Germany via Morrisons. Very nice and smooth.

Lazy afternoon
D: hm lc chicken curry with green beans and crispy "seaweed greens"
2 glass rose wine
Some not low carb brownie (blaming the wine for the lack of resolve)

It sounds as though, at the very least, you need a course of manipulative physiotherapy @Antje77.

Physio has already done something like that a few weeks back, and gave me exercises. Very nice on regular aches and pains, but it didn't do anything for nerves apparently refusing to tell muscles what to do.
A neurologist spending 45 minutes on you (after the intern did the intake), and wanting to do more specialised tests because of being puzzled about her findings is likely beyond what a physiotherapist can fix.
I think I'll ask the physio if he can do some tests to measure strength. That way, I can compare in the future if I want to know if it got worse.
My current scale is the scale of electric kettle: A week and a half ago I could just about put it on its base when filled with a liter of water, now I can't without help from the other arm. not a very scientific scale! :hilarious:
No problem holding at least 30 kilos one handed as long as I don't have to bend the arm though.

Had an easy meal of shawarma, lettuce, onion, mushrooms, lettuce, arugola and a mayonnaise based sauce in a LC wrap.
BG has been a mess today, I'm blaming the hospital appointment.

Last of the cheddar on some RyVita with 2 cups of tea for breakfast - cold is slackening off a bit but throat still demanding drinks.

2ndmeal will be a mix of pork mince, mushrooms and black beans. That was in the freezer and needs to be used even though it doesn't look very appetising.

Not very warm here today - might have to turn the heating up. I put it up to 19C a few days ago, but it needs to go up a bit more now.

Alistair was in with the mail - things which should have arrived haven't. They just didn't come into the office so not their fault. I think the new arrangement with the Glasgow mail centre has a lot to answer for. They just don't seem to be able to make whatever the system is, work.

Neil went shopping for me but lots from the list wasn't available (nothing fancy, just normal food) and the raspberries that he bought should have been in the short dated section (use by date today) but wasn't. He didn't think to check. Never mind, I'll make a puree of them and freeze that. Can't make the raspberry pavlova I planned because I don't make my own meringues and there were none in the shop. Try again on Thursday. I have a little time in hand on that order. Have to have a plan B in case he can't get what I need on Thursday. I have some citrus fruits or some dessert apples but nothing to replace the meringues so it would have to be some kind of sponge cake. Ah well, we'll see what Thursday brings.

I'm sure there must be something usable in that freezer of yours @Annb . I have a lovely mental picture of it looking innocently like a normal freezer but that secretly it is bottomless and there so much lurking in there that you could feed the whole island! :hungry::hungry::hungry:

After a nice day yesterday, have been feeling a bit "meh" today.
Did double dancing then some lc baking ready for a trip away next week.
Think I took in too many sweeteners while taste testing as have headache now.
And just found hubby ate the cold chicken planned for tonight for his lunch! He doesn't see it as a problem :banghead:
And used all the eggs in the baking so can't even fall back to an omelette...
And the fridge is emptying ready for our trip...

It's time for me to get back on track. School holidays have started, but I am still going around in circles.

Hubby's birthday today.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast. One with seafood cocktail, the other with cheese. Benecol dairy free.

L. Nothing

D. Vodka & diet coke. Rib eye steak, peas 3 santini tomatoes, 1 onion ring, mushrooms, mustard. Scoop of Halo Top with raspberries.

I'm going shopping with the eldest grandson tomorrow to get him some new casual clothes. He's growing like a weed, and I hope I can persuade him to get something other than grey or black. DIL'S parents are here from the USA, so we are all off out tomorrow.

I've had a ridiculously busy few weeks. My tutoring continued to pay dividends. Grandson got 92% in Engineering Science and 100% in physics. He asked me if that makes him a nerd! Apart from that, I've been dealing with lots of things going wrong. It started with my fridge/freezer having a breakdown. Thankfully, I was able to store the freezer stuff in the niece's freezer. That was fixed quite promptly. Then it was time for the boiler & radiator service. It was pretty uneventful until he noticed a leak on one of the bathroom radiators. That was fixed two days later. Then my washing machine broke down, and our decking was crumbling. My feet were threatening to go through it! Not recommended with my injuries. The washing machine was fixed too. Thank goodness for my Homecare Contract! Just looking at the machine repairs, the parts for that alone would have been over £400 never mind all the other repairs.

The deck has also been replaced. To be fair, it's been there 17 years. It's now solid and level again. Regrettably, that wasn't covered on Homecare.

I've also been keeping my SIL in Australia calm. Her husband has been living with a triple A as they call it. An aortic abdominal aneurysm. It started to grow rapidly, and surgery has become essential. Thankfully, they can still go in through the groin. It's still major surgery, but it's preferable to open surgery. That's scheduled for a week today.

There was one more jaw dropper. A friend of both my SIL & us was in Thailand, and she decided to have one of these health scans. No reason, she just wanted a check up. It uncovered a tumour the size of a grapefruit near the ovary. It is cancerous. She got on the phone to her GP here in East Lothian as the Thai doctors were emailing the test results to him. Her GP told her she'd be better getting treatment in Thailand as she wouldn't be seen here for at least 8 weeks. She had a complete hysterectomy 2 days later and is now halfway through chemotherapy. I cannot begin to describe at how shocked I was that she was told she wouldn't be seen for at least 8 weeks. She's fortunate that she had the insurance and was able to arrange things for prompt treatment.

Just to finish things off, I managed to injure myself at Aqua just over a week ago. I tried to persuade my legs to do movements they really didn't want to do. I've spent the next few days with a combination of Revitive, heated massage pads, and paracetamol to get me mobile again.

Order will be restored shortly!
