What I am short of is sweet things, and the request is for something of a dessert. I tend not to store sweet things in the freezer - anything left over goes to Alistair's family. Plenty there to feed myself, or to make a savoury dish. I've only asked Neil to get fresh vegetables for me for the last few weeks.I'm sure there must be something usable in that freezer of yours @Annb . I have a lovely mental picture of it looking innocently like a normal freezer but that secretly it is bottomless and there so much lurking in there that you could feed the whole island!![]()
Good to see you again @maglil55. I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering what has happened. Now I know. You've had a whole year's worth of problems to deal with in the last weeks. It's time for me to get back on track. School holidays have started, but I am still going around in circles.
Hubby's birthday today.
B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast. One with seafood cocktail, the other with cheese. Benecol dairy free.
L. Nothing
D. Vodka & diet coke. Rib eye steak, peas 3 santini tomatoes, 1 onion ring, mushrooms, mustard. Scoop of Halo Top with raspberries.
I'm going shopping with the eldest grandson tomorrow to get him some new casual clothes. He's growing like a weed, and I hope I can persuade him to get something other than grey or black. DIL'S parents are here from the USA, so we are all off out tomorrow.
I've had a ridiculously busy few weeks. My tutoring continued to pay dividends. Grandson got 92% in Engineering Science and 100% in physics. He asked me if that makes him a nerd! Apart from that, I've been dealing with lots of things going wrong. It started with my fridge/freezer having a breakdown. Thankfully, I was able to store the freezer stuff in the niece's freezer. That was fixed quite promptly. Then it was time for the boiler & radiator service. It was pretty uneventful until he noticed a leak on one of the bathroom radiators. That was fixed two days later. Then my washing machine broke down, and our decking was crumbling. My feet were threatening to go through it! Not recommended with my injuries. The washing machine was fixed too. Thank goodness for my Homecare Contract! Just looking at the machine repairs, the parts for that alone would have been over £400 never mind all the other repairs.
The deck has also been replaced. To be fair, it's been there 17 years. It's now solid and level again. Regrettably, that wasn't covered on Homecare.
I've also been keeping my SIL in Australia calm. Her husband has been living with a triple A as they call it. An aortic abdominal aneurysm. It started to grow rapidly, and surgery has become essential. Thankfully, they can still go in through the groin. It's still major surgery, but it's preferable to open surgery. That's scheduled for a week today.
There was one more jaw dropper. A friend of both my SIL & us was in Thailand, and she decided to have one of these health scans. No reason, she just wanted a check up. It uncovered a tumour the size of a grapefruit near the ovary. It is cancerous. She got on the phone to her GP here in East Lothian as the Thai doctors were emailing the test results to him. Her GP told her she'd be better getting treatment in Thailand as she wouldn't be seen here for at least 8 weeks. She had a complete hysterectomy 2 days later and is now halfway through chemotherapy. I cannot begin to describe at how shocked I was that she was told she wouldn't be seen for at least 8 weeks. She's fortunate that she had the insurance and was able to arrange things for prompt treatment.
Just to finish things off, I managed to injure myself at Aqua just over a week ago. I tried to persuade my legs to do movements they really didn't want to do. I've spent the next few days with a combination of Revitive, heated massage pads, and paracetamol to get me mobile again.
Order will be restored shortly!
Have you kept a food diary recently? @RosemaryJackson It's all too easy to overlook things if we rely solely on memory. Might be helpful to keep a record for a week or two to see whether a pattern emerges. It might not be necessary to fast in order to lower your BG levels. Just a thought.I had a fast yesterday because I had picked up a bug from somewhere. Didn't eat till 6 o'clock and my bedtime level was 5.8! It's made me think that I need to change my thinking about food and diabetes.
I hope you are feeling better today, Rosemary. I seem to have got over whatever it was that was getting at me. Still felt awful when I went to bed but vastly improved by this morning.Good morning all. @LivingLightly, I normally keep a diary but since my birthday, I haven't bothered. You'd think I'd know better at my age! Have started one again today. I'm being taken out for a belated birthday lunch today and I'm going to have either a cooked breakfast (without toast and baked beans) or an omelette and salad. It looks like a beautiful day out there so I hope everyone has a lovely day too.![]()
Just a quick congratulations to you I'm hectic this am but spotted this on a quick scan and just nipped in to say well done you must be thrilled with your results. Excellent news .Morning all, thinking of those who are under the weather or having tricky weeks. Very happy to say that my Hba1c result is back at 34 so I am officially in remission now,6 months off medication. Couldn’t have kept on track without all of you lovely people, for info, motivation, support and lovely food ideas. Looking forward to seeing my diabetic nurse in a couple of weeks who is very much a low carb denier.

Ha ha,I don’t think she is diabetic, but very much of the “have wholemeal bread, rice, fruit, eatwell plate” school of diabetes management. We will see what she says to me this time, a year into this LCHF way of lifeCongratulations @sueh21 on achieving an HbA1c of 34. Well done you.
A low carb denier? i assume your nurse is a specialist in treating diabetes, not diabetic herself.
