"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Fasted until 12:45 as had been called for NHS health check. 30 minutes of weight, BP, pulse, etc! Hubby had his a few weeks ago and said he had finger pricks for cholesterol and bg but she took a full armful from me. Hoping for full lipids panel as gp whacked a Famial Hypercholesterolemia diagnosis on me when I refused statins back in May.
I'd gone prepared to raise diabetes, lipids and thyroid and at least mentioned them so will be interesting to see if they get recorded.
BTW I was praised on weight, BP and diet. She mentioned eating lots of fruit and veg so I mumbled I don't eat much fruit except for berries and she seemed impressed. I did NOT mention low carb or keto...I'm learning to keep them on side.
Awaiting results with interest (except surgery have just changed their system and I can no longer see results online, hoping that's only temporary. Hubby cant see his history at all. At least I can see what was done if not the outcome)

L: was 2 slices livlife toasted with cheese. A cold sausage and more cheese while cooking. I must in future only do 1 slice, I force myself to finish the second. Its only habit.
1 sq hm lc chocolate cake.

After noon sudden migraine followed by 3 hours sleep. Was is relief of tension? Chocolate? Bright sunlight? Toomuch computer screen? Who know, frustrating none the less.

D: cooked by Hubby so a palaver :banghead: (he tries and wants to learn but never seems to improve) 2 (overcooked) beefburgers with carrot and cabbage and instant gravy. Coffee ice cream

Morning all. I've had my grandson staying with me all week so haven't been able to get on my laptop. Now he's gone to stay with his cousin for a couple of days and then he's going to the Czch Republic till after Christmas. I got a bit of a shock a week ago. I had the Retinopathy camera and it showed a bleed which I was told was caused by glucose so since then, I've cut everything naughty out and am counting the carbs I take in. That was the kick I needed so I'm back on the wagon and don't intend to fall off. Christmas is coming and it will be difficult but I really intend to stick it out. My daughter died from Diabetes Mellitus so that is never far from my thoughts. My one treat is 20 ml of Baileys in my coffee every morning but when the bottle is finished, I will replace it with cream and whisky! no sugar in that. There are 4-5g of carbs in 20ml so it isn't too bad tho it can be improved. Have a good day all. :)

Sorry to hear about your bleed - it's hard but changes in health can help motivate changes which are difficult to make. I think it's a really good idea to replace Bailey's with a straight spirit and double cream. If you find you need it a bit sweeter you could add a tiny bit of sweetener - although cream adds a fair bit of sweetness.

Breakfast today was soup out of the freezer. The label on the pot was leek and potato so I was surprised when I found a pan of something like minestrone. It was good though, and still some left for later.

2nd meal is something which had lost its label but looks like chicken and mushroom pie filling. Also found a little box of boiled potatoes so they are in the oven at the moment with some butter to roast them off.

Early yoga was cancelled which is a shame. None now until the New Year.

10:00 Mushroom omelette
12:30 a bit of cheese and a cheese twist from a bakery. Surprisingly my bg didn't rise at all.
Afternoon, family putting decorations up. 2 Stollen bites and a gingerbread round. Far too many carbs but glad I'm wearing a libre. Hoping seeing such spikes will help me stay focused.
D: 1 glass white wine with soda. venison roast, red cabbage and green beans. Half a Stollen bite and a quarter of a gingerbread round, but still spiked as high as earlier.

I'm fasting till lunchtime then roast chicken with veg and tonight I'll have scrambled eggs. Have I missed something? I notice there are no posts from @LivingLightly. I had a bit of an accident yesterday when I got out of the car at the surgery. The wind took the door and it hit my face. I have a lovely swelling but no bruise! I went to out of hours surgery because I had so much earache and he thinks I have a viral infection. That's all I need! They say things happen in threes so that's my three hopefully finished with. It's so wet and windy here but hope you all have a good day. :)

Minestrone for breakfast
2nd meal will be steak with a fried egg on top and some fried onions to keep it company.

I've been looking on the internet for some ideas for a vegetarian Christmas main course. Alistair tells me he doesn't much bother with making anything for himself. Doesn't like the things everyone else wants (mainly pigs in blankets and turkey) so just has a few veg. He's also cutting down on fats due to his stomach issues. I suggested a nut roast, but he refuted that suggestion very rapidly. He cooks the Christmas meal for everyone else though, so I thought I'd make something special for him. I've found a few recipes, so I'll have to see if I can get the ingredients for them here.

I used to do a cheese and lentil loaf that was easy. Can be made impressive/festive with a line of red peppers through the middle. If this sounds suitable let me know and I'll try find the recipe

That sounds like a very good idea. Thanks very much, I'd be grateful if you do have the recipe to hand.

Cook 200g red lentils in water with either stock cube or good seasoning of your choice. When soft drain well.
Soften a finely chopped onion in oil or butter (and a grated carrot if you have one, I often dont)
Mix the lentils and onion with 100g grated cheddar and 1beaten egg.
Put in a well greased loaf tin or dish. Bake for 30-40 minutes at 180° fan (gm5). Might need to cover with foil if it gets too brown.

You can add a layer of cooked mushrooms or red peppers or even stuffing to make it look festive.
It also tastes great cold the next day. Or fried in a little butter.
Can vary it by adding herbs or spices seasonings of your choice. Or varying cheeses.

Hope he enjoys it

Met a friend for coffee, we were supposed to be walking but too windy and wet.
11:30 celeriac mash with cheese and some nuts

Afternoon of dancing Christmas social, much laughter and many steps -some of them right!

Drank 1 glass wine with soda over 3 hours. Nibbled on nuts and olives, and 6 chocolates that were supplied. BG hardly shifted

19:00 some bolognaise mince. 2 sqs hm lc chocolate cake with full fat greek. A brandy.

Thanks for that. It looks good and also simple to make. That's his Christmas dinner sorted.

I taught myself to "like" brandy in coffee. I can manage Jamesons Irish whisky as well. I can't honestly say it's my favourite but I have discovered that Tia Maria is now much too sweet for me. Practice makes perfect I suppose.

Well done on getting your own way with the energy company. Very determined lady you are. Also very well organised with all you have to do and getting your shopping organised as well. Hugs for Hubby not feeling well and for you having to work around it. Here's hoping he's better soon.
He was mostly recovered a day later thankfully. Now he's driving me crazy wrapping Christmas Gifts, but not labelling them!! It's like a Christmas mystery game for me!

I was delighted that the energy company fell into line quickly this time. I had quite a battle with them last time. I was not having this though. I'd already done some homework to prepare to switch. My husband was impressed that I stopped them in their tracks before they tried their script on why I should increase the direct debit. It was very pleasing to have them comply.
