What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I had a very good day today. I was up at 3 am and I needed that time to get ready in time.

But then I was thinking of my friend and her husband. They had said no flowers. I did not have time to send a card before the funeral this morning. The only thing I could think of doing was making a personal special condolence card and sending it through WhatsApp to her.
That took far longer than I thought, and before I knew it, I was still here at home in Wales when I should've been in Liverpool looking for my parking space and having a cup of tea and a breakfast before my appointment.

A race against time.
I beat the satnav times. I kept to exactly 1 mile an hour below the max speed allowed on any road, whether 20 or 70mph. It was heavy going to work traffic, so they were quite happy with me. I made my appointment with minutes to spare.

All the nurses and medical people I saw made a special effort to accommodate my deafness and hearing needs.
They were very kind and considerate, and made sure I understood all the information they were imparting to me, absolutely perfectly all the way through the appointment. One nurse got me to repeat what she said to make absolutely sure I understood every step of the way.

All I had on about my deafness, was my deafness lanyard and badge (and my clothes of course). I never once had to say to anyone I was deaf and I needed extra help. It was all done for me....

A total contrast to my last horrific appointment there.

I could not have asked for more ...

I was told, of course I could wear my Cochlear sound processor for the operation, and before I could ask, I was told of course you can take your mobile phone into the operating theatre. It is an essential piece of medical equipment for controlling your Cochlear processor. You could've knocked me down with a feather for this, after the last debacle appointment....

Then she made me a little bit sad, and told me I would have to take my earrings off for the operation. But my partner died in 2009 and he bought them me and I have not taken them off since then, I explained. No problem said the nurse, they are your comfort for your operation. We will tape them up. You must wear them during the operation. They are your comfort item.

The whole appointment went beautifully with every possible help given and consideration for my deafness.

Then I went to Greggs cafe, bought a cup of tea and a pasty, and a text came through from my friend and her husband. They really appreciated that special individual condolence card I made for them. It was well worth me doing that this morning before the funeral..even though it was a job getting to the hospital on time.

I am drop dead tired now and been in bed since I got home.

About my new mobile phone, pixel 8, it was nowhere near ready to take out to depend on. There are so many little things that you don't realise that you installed on your old phone as you went along, that you will rely on for something else, and obviously I didn't have my password book out with me...

What a turn up for the books - a successful day and a kind card sent. Crystal kaleidoscope - smashing, reminds me of those toy kaleidoscopes we had as children

I know it is possibly high because of my love for soughdough crusty bread these last few days to keep me going. I love eggy bread....
A short post.
I need chill out time and sleep for me today.

Creative...some Laboscope kaleidoscope shots in the kitchen while eggy bread was cooking. I have no idea what the Laboscope app was picking up to create this effect, even though I was looking directly at it...

Fbg 5.8 this morning the Dexcom one+ read somewhat higher so have used the 5.8 given by finger prick to calibrate the sensor.
Keiran and melody decided not to overnight in Bristol and drove straight back after the ceremony arriving home about half nine.
@gennepher so glad things went well for you and congratulations on fighting the good fight.
@Lamont D sorry that you are having a hard time of it at the moment mate wish we could lighten your burden but we are here for you and maybe we can help raise your spirits a little take care.
 
Good morning everyone on a misty start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.7 this morning. First cut of the year yesterday - hair that is, far too early for grass. Mrs Miggins does the top bit, I do my beard. It’s all done in the best possible taste. Talking of which, out to lunch yesterday curtesy of a gift voucher, one of four received as Christmas gifts. What else do you get older friends and relatives who seem to have everything - no, not penicilin. Don’t be naughty. Youngest son’s 40th birthday today - how time flies when you are not looking. Reminds me of how fleeting is our own time, the length of which is rightly unknown. I remember his birth vividly, at Oddstock hospital, Salisbury and holding one of his mothers legs up by the ankle under the instructions of the midwife as he struggled into the world, complaining loudly about having to change rooms at such short notice. Art bit - a tree on a large sheet of paper. I did do an ink pen sketch yesterday - all going quite well until I smudged it with the palm of my clumsy right hand. Hope your day is sprinkled with happy thoughts. I need some koffy - well, not need, but it’s what I’m going to have - it’s a super food don’t you know, good in winter and summer.

I have some not so clumsy hands but couldn’t find them yesterday ;). I was messing about with some liquid resist on that but the cheap paper didn’t like it when I went to remove it.
 
Morning all from a soggy, grey and layer requiring start to Wednesday here. Wonderful it is certainly not but there is always the chance of an epiphany even on these days which exemplify the concept now but not yet. @gennepher thank you for sharing two wonderful kaleidoscopes. That was such a kind and typical idea to create a personalised card. Yesterday seems as though you had textbook care at the hospital, I'm so pleased for you. @SlimLizzy yesterday seems to have been a good day even if Mr Slim appears to have worn your friend out. Smart cat litter made me chuckle. @Lamont D hug for whatever the issue is and as @jjraak says sharing is at your leisure and very much at your discretion. @jjraak I am vaguely aware of Father Ted, have heard of Friends (question on Only Connect Monday) and Marvel (University Challenge questions) but they completely passed me by. I assume the references are well meant as that is what you do. @dunelm many happy returns to your son and thank you for sharing the thought provoking art. I'm not completely sure what thoughts it provokes or if I should like all the art shared but I'll work on that. I do know I both should be and am grateful to be given the opportunity to decide. Enjoy the superfood. @JohnEGreen wonderful sentiments towards Lamont and thank you for sharing the picture of Kieran. @Annb I hope stopping some meds helps the kidneys but doesn't cause other issues. Not sure how all that comes across but in my mind it was a collegial/friendly post but we village idiots are rum coves.

I have just found several liquid resists. I bought during actual lockdowns from Amazon and various other places.

No, they don't like cheap paper...they are very fussy.

Happy 40th to your son, and many more happy days and years for all of you.

Oddly, although I'm pretty sure I was there, I remember very little about the actual births of either of my sons - the hours before and after, but not the actual events. I remember saying that it was easy and pain free, which I had not expected, at least for Neil and no, I wasn't drugged. Just built for the job, I guess. I do remember that Tom wasn't allowed in for the first one, but was there for the 2nd. Just as well it was easy, both maternity hospitals were pretty poor way back then (1967 and 1969).

Thank you @ianpspurs and yes, art is there to provoke, even if it wrinkles the brow and feels like sucking on a not quite ripe lime.

Thank you @Annb - I was born in what mum describes as a maternity home and mum, not yet 18 years old decided never again. All my siblings were born at home. She reports being there on each occasion :).
