Same onion soup with lots of grated cheese as yesterday, only a different background because I ate at work.

And when I came home after a long day there was a wonderful surprise waiting for me in front of my house!

Yesterday a neighbour down the road sent a whatsapp message to all neighbours asking if anyone was interested in 3 garden benches and a table she needed to get rid off. I was, as well as another neighbour, so I got two benches, he got a bench and the table.
And because I was at work they decided to deliver my benches. :joyful:

Look how pretty they are!
I think I'll keep the one with the tulips in front of my house (south facing) and put the other one on the west side of my house, for spring evenings and sundowns.

Lucky you. Two lovely benches. The soup looks rather good as well.

My travels were far more mundane than Annb's, mostly just holidays and the occasional work trip. I've never lived abroad but I have been to all the continents except South America and Antarctica.
Long haul was as easy and cheap as Europe so we tended to head further afield and are only now starting to get to know closer countries, and indeed our own, better.
I've been to USA about 20 times (I had family in 3 states and have explored about 12 others), Canada 3 times, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Seychelles, Hong Kong, Singapore, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands (6 or 7 times over 50 years!), Germany France Italy Spain(all multiple times) South Africa twice,. And probably more countries that I've forgotten!. Oh Switzerland and Belgium as a child
I've crewed yachts in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean
I went to Croatia for the first time last year and loved it so much am going back later this year
... so yes my bucket list has been well and truly ticked off. I have been very lucky.
At some point might like to go to Ireland and Japan.
Am off to Scotland soon... haven't been for over 40 years!

That all sounds very boastful, but in truth I have just been travelling many years. I first went to France aged 2. I have a picture of me carrying a baguette that is longer than I am tall!
And as I said, marrying into the travel industry helped!

But please keep on coaxing those stories out of Annb , I've known and very much appreciated her for years on here and there must be so many more interesting stories, I had no idea!

When I was in school, a friend of mine said, "people usually like to talk about themselves more than they like to listen to others, but on the contrary, you like to listen, so you're a great friend" :hilarious: But that's not really true, I just think that dialogue consists of questions and answers, and I usually ask about something to keep the dialogue going, and then it turns out that I know more about others than they do about me, because I don't think it's necessary to tell you something that I'm not being asked about.
So many more interesting topics between two people with somewhat annoying but mostly boring T1 without many issues.
My left arm started to go numb (probably because neuropathy) So I had to make an appointment with a neurologist. They'll probably give me a course of berlithione ivs and I'll feel better.

Look how pretty they are!

amazing benches! If they are painted, it will be a masterpiece.

We asked for the stories ourselves, so it's not bragging. I can roughly imagine everything except South Africa. How was it? Which of the places you visited did you like the most?

I traveled very little, the only foreign country I saw was Ukraine and that's only because I have all my relatives there on my mother's side. But I saw the northern Lights and the largest lake in the world.

I travelled a bit in the early 60's. Our baby was stilborn and my husband came from his ship to fetch me to stay on board for a couple of days. So I asked the captain if I could go with them for a couple of trips and to my delight, he said yes. But he had to sign me on as a deckhand. I was paid 1 guilder per week (2 shilliings then). I had my own Monsterboekje (Antje plese translate)and when I got my sealegs, I was given a 2 hour watch. Sometimes my husband (who was 1st mate) and I would be on the same watch. It was wonderful looking out into the blackness of the night with just the dim light of the compass. My first trip was to Norway and I was seasick the wjhole time. But when we got into the ffjord I went up on deck and got my sealegs and never looked back.

I was just signed on as "supernumerary" with no job to do, which suited me.

Breakfast was some more twice cooked pork with a fried egg.

There's a big pot of the soup that the pork was first cooked in for later.

Today should have been day 3 of onion soup but I didn't feel like it. Besides, I discovered a new type of lc cracker yesterday (1,2 grams a piece) and I did feel like eating those. :)

So I fed the fishes under my bridge and had two crackers with lots of toppings, and a piece of chicory with hummus. :hungry:

Good questions! Got me thinking...
What I like has changed over the years. In my sailing days I liked sun, alcohol and parties. Now I like peace, nature and comfort!
I'd love to see really good Northern Lights. We had glimpses in South UK a few months ago. Was exciting but so made me want to experience more

Food, or rather lc food, has not been good today or yesterday

I got very miffed that having been away and been very active and very sensible with food choices that my scales say I've put on weight :banghead:
So in my awkward self destroying way I:
Ate a whole 100g of 85% chocolate
Drank alcohol
Made proper ice cream. Ate some (for breakfast)
Made a proper cake
Made an lc cake and ate a quarter of it
Ate cheese before going to event so I could say No to the buffet
Didn't say No to the buffet
Had pie
Had 2 pieces proper cake
Have done no exercise
Have eaten when not hungry
Drank alcohol again.

Hoping I can "snap out of it" soon.

What did you drink in your youth? And how did you have fun besides getting drunk? As a quiet bookish child, I immediately moved on to a love of silence and comfort, skipping the stage of loving parties.

in reality, it is paler than in the photo, but

and also, if you suffer from weather dependence, then during the northern lights you have a headache :hilarious:

Any details or picture of the packet please?
You never know maybe we could get them here
Tomorrow!
But the brand sounds very Dutch so don't get your hopes up. :(

I hear echoes of the very hungry caterpillar, which we all love so I think it doesn't count. ;)
You'll be a butterfly tomorrow, and if not, tomorrow is a fine day for more sensible choices!
Your day sounds very good, sometimes it's about living life more than about wise choices!

Breakfast: Another helping out of the big pot of soup. A couple of RyVita crumbled into it as croutons.

2nd meal depends on what Neil can get in the shops today. The list includes a selection of vegetables and some beef mince, some pork sausages and some salmon, so we shall see what there is. If he can get it, it will be salmon.

BG dropped a bit low yesterday evening and I had a handy chocolate/nut bar, so used that to bring it up. It was reasonably successful, but it made me feel sick! Not such a great idea then.

@Annb, you had 2 children to look after and teach. I didn't so I asked the Captain if there was anything I could do and he gave me a small 2-hour watch and some painting. I stayed on board for 5 months and loved every miinute. Being with my husband and the novel experience of being on a ship, helped enormously to cope with the trauma of losing our daughter. You did far more good teaching the children than I did painting a Capstan!!

The package certainly looks as if they're aiming for an international market, even though the product is Dutch, so who knows!

@JoKalsbeek , in case you're interested, I found these at Aldi.

Thanks for the info @Antje77 , the packaging looks hopeful! And Aldi. I'll keep an eye out.

Well my bad food day yesterday cost me a nasty tummy upset most of the night, so was very easy to fast until 2pm today when I had scrambled eggs, a slice hm lc soda bread and a bit of cheese.

Dinner was 2 90% sausages, cauliflower and a few chips. Glass white wine.

@Zhnyaka in my youth I think I drank anything and everything! :hungry: I love your pink suit!

Well, the day/food didn't go as I expected. Neil was uncertain whether he would be able to drive today - his Crohn's was affecting his eyes (it does that every so often) so that none of his various pairs of glasses were able to let him see well enough to drive. I was to wait and see how he got on in the morning/early afternoon to see if things improved. Eventually he said he could manage, so the drive to town was on. Turns out his "good" eye was able to see distance better than usual, but close up was dodgy; his "bad" eye was able to see close up, fairly well, but distance vision was fuzzy. None of his glasses were any help at all. Basically he was driving with one operative eye at a time. I said I would cancel my appointment, but he wouldn't hear of it.

We got to town, a bit late, due to roadworks but couldn't find a parking space anywhere closer than about 1/4 mile away from the clinic (uphill most of the way) so we were late for the appointment but I got in. Poor Neil, not feeling great anyway, had to push me uphill as quickly as he could. I did tell him to go slower but he insisted.

He left me at the clinic and went off to do the shopping. I had given him cash for my list and he went to a local hardware shop to buy a tool he needs to finish off the work on the roof. He tried to pay for it using his bank card but found that he couldn't remember his PIN so he used the cash for the tool, leaving only about £10 for the shopping. He went to the bank to try to get cash there, but the number he put in was wrong again. So he only had money to buy milk and some mushrooms. He'll try again tomorrow - I have an appointment for my leg bandaging and, if necessary, I will get cash from the bank until he gets his account sorted out. The bank doesn't like it if I let him use my card.

So, food did not involve salmon. I cooked some buckwheat noodles and added them to the last of the soup. Made a tasty noodle dish, if a bit high on carbs. BG was too low while I was out anyway - sorted that out with a couple of fruit pastilles just to stop the drop and then a cup of sweetened coffee when I got home. Up into the 8's just now.
