What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

No they don't ask you to fast nowadays but if you have eaten, it can screw up the trig results which some results don't even include anymore which is strange as high trigs are usually an indicator of something else going on. I have v. high cholesterol, so I have been told to always fast prior to the blood draw.

your comment about trig results can be be screwered concerns me. triglycerides in hospistal end of january for me was exceptionally high 63.2. choloestrol levels were also very high although nowhere nearly as bad. they did come down (still still a little high) over the last few months. The consultant in particular asked me to eat breakfast that was around 4-5 days after i was told by the DSN to ensure i fasted. URGH

i wonder if i should try obtain the telephone number for the ward that is doing the test and ask what i should do, OR if its better to go in fasted then eat something and test again a few hours later or something rather than perhaps putting me in the situation where need to get go back in the near future to have bloods retested. really am hopeless when it comes to blood tests. still waiting since end of jan for appt with physciatrist to try assist with that issue :O

I don’t know about you guys but I’m constantly reading research papers regarding nutrition and the like

Recently I came across one where older participants were fed casein, a milk protein before bed. According to the study it built muscle while sleeping in elderly folk

I’m seventy one with a bmi of eighteen so I thought I’d give this a try

This mornings contour next reading is six point seven.
I’ve got a big tub of vanilla, really nice with almond milk or mixed with yogurt, nuts & berries

Are you sure trigs figure is right, mines usually 0.5/0.6, just seems really high

Hi All today was 8.3 which is bad. No other way to describe it. Mainly because I have cut back on meals, fats and keeping carbs within 30g a day. I have various ailments which affect my eating. I need to lose weight, ideally up to 1 stone. Sorry to be negative because I so admire you all and know how hard the fight is. Take care everyone.

imo very difficult to lowcarb diet whilst also cutting back fats. whats your current calorie intake vs burned like ?

10.8 today

Busy day ahead, will tomorrow be higher or lower?
And....

9.8

Barely ate yesterday as too tired and today going the same way.

Interesting that even though it obviously still affects lipid results they no longer ask you to fast. I'm having bloods taken in a few weeks so will fast beforehand just in case, they haven't even told me what they're testing for. I've asked my husband to remind me not to accidentally eat before the appointment!

OMG……
I am stunned
Never, in at least ten years, have I had bloodwork done that wasn’t flagged for out of range results….until today. I am giddy…..
A1C….5.9% or 41…..I went back ten years and have never had one that low (not diagnosed until 2022 but always high due to pancreatitis). That means, by Canadian standards, that I am not even pre-diabetic…just squeaked by.
Lipid panel was nothing short of surprising….since my last test in January my cholesterol is as follows with Jan results in brackets
Total. 4.28 (6.4)
LDL 2.44 (4.45)
HDL 1.63 (1.55)….like to see this go up
Triglycerides 0.68 (0.89)….like to see this down!
Non HDL 2.75

So why? Did I change my diet…umm, not really…I actually ate a few more carbs than normal, I still love my bacon and butter coffee. Exercise is the same, weight is steady. What I did was I added Berberine in April and I also started taking Creon. It took awhile for me to tolerate the Berberine but now I don’t have issues…this bloodwork was my test for Berberine. I am suitably impressed. Really interested in what my October numbers will show.

I now have some energy to burn off…I am so flipping happy. My old doctor even texted me some big thumbs up….

I'm sure that the ward wont mind you ringing them to ask any questions you have. I was having issues with some physio exercises I have been given to do so I rang the physio department the other day and spoke to the physiotherapist I had been allocated. The guy was really great, very helpful and understanding, he answered all the questions I had and advised me accordingly. Give them a ring they should be able to advise on the blood draw and may be able to answer other questions you have.

I hope all goes well for you and it turns out there is a good reason for the higher than desired trig levels. Some medication you are on perhaps?

Cheers
