Thinking of going onto insulin pump tandem t:slim

Thank you for your encouraging words, Kim. Funnily enough, my hospital diabetes team finally emailed me today to offer me an appointment to start the closed loop insulin pump kit late next month. Bit of a wait still but yes, it's finally happening !! :D

I just got my appointment invite letter through about my pump kit start, and it says to "bring a vial of insulin with you", okay cool, I'm sure I can do that because I knew my prescription list had been changed recently by my hospital team... and I'm reading here that "due to licensing you will be prescribed NovoRapid vials"... so not only am I changing background insulin because of Levemir being discontinued, they're also getting me off Humalog too, I guess? All the changes, meep! I've been on Humalog for as long as I can remember!

Hi @MeepGenesis the good news is you won't need the background insulin anymore as the pump will take care of that with the rapid acting insulin. Although you should still have a supply of Basal insulin at hand incase of pump malfunctions.
I haven't heard of licensing issues before wrt Humalog - may I ask which pump you have chosen?
Thanks

No need to over explain. I was just nervous about my insulins changing.
This thread is about people starting on the t:slim pump.

No, I understand about the nervousness - according to the user manual of the t:slim pump, Humalog can be used but the infusion set must be changed every 48 hours whilst with Novorapid it's every 72 hours. So I'm guessing your clinic are coming at it from a cost point of view.

I see! Fascinating!
Yeah, my team said it was because of licensing but this extra info does add more sense to it.

I'm asking them to change my off pump insulin to be novorapid instead of having any humalog now. They're taking a while to get back to me about this change. Like it doesn't make sense to swap my insulin around if I'm being forced to use novorapid? I dunno about y'all, but I tend to experience differences from my body for background insulins, so fair to guess difference with quick acting.
Sent a chase up email about the humalog to novorapid situation today. Hopefully they sort things soon.

I'm on humalog and do a change every 3 to 3.5 days.

I also fill my reservoirs from 3ml penfill cartridges (makes it easier so I don't need a separate script for emergency pens injections.)

EDited to add, that's with a tandem tslim
