Is anyone having a day off Christmas day not to go mad but just a couple of treats would be nice :(

If you mean food, though, I do keep Christmas eating mainly to low carb. Meat, veg etc, don’t have the sweet or high carb food in the house. Though if there happens to be a variety of cheeses, and nice wines, I will allow myself to have a few savoury biscuits.

I know that for many, me included, one day off normal way of eating, would be likely to turn into a couple of weeks, due to the almost addictive affect carbs have on me. So feel better sticking with what is best, for my own wellbeing.

I don’t deviate much from my usual eating, except for a few extra keto/low carb treats. I did the one day off very early my diagnosis and felt so rough & tired - slept most of the day & felt lousy for about 3 days & totally spolled my Christmas.

So Christmas Day low carb brunch about 11 am of big pigs in blankets, smoked salmon, cheeses, bacon, egg muffins, this year I’ve got myself some low carb bagels & little croissants

Christmas Meal about 5ish, turkey, about 5 or 6 different above ground veggies, pigs in blankets, no potatoes, good gravy, home made cranberry sauce. A small soup spoon of Xmas pud & cream, cheese board

Boxing Day I have my off plan treat, my favourite meal that I enjoy more than my Xmas lunch

Cold cuts of meats, pickles, pigs in blankets & about 8 fat chips with lots of vinegar - & low carb bread for a chip butty! Then back on plan

But some do have a day off and manage it well - it’s all personal choice

Lol I will still be sticking to low carb as well, just wanted some chocolate and not plain chocolate! I haven't had any for a year.
Right, chocolate..
I do actually prefer the high cocoa 85% stuff. I have, in the past made ganache, which is versatile alternative to those big tubs of chocolates that are everywhere this time of year.
The cream is a bit heavy for me these days , but it did hit the spot when craving hit
something like this made into peanut butter cups.

Thank you so much for that, I'll give it a try

My main difference is I’ll have breakfast, lunch and tea, I usually skip lunch. I’ll have my usual keto coconut ‘porridge’ for breakfast. Lunch will be traditional Xmas lunch, I’ll have just one small roast potato, plenty of meat and veg with a splash of gravy and a smidge of cranberry. Followed by a low carb Xmas pudding with cream. Tea will be cold cuts, cheese, and salad with a low carb trifle.

Edit to add, maybe a couple of low carb mince pies will pass my lips!

I'll eat more carbs than usual on the 25th, and especially less predictable food. My 80 (or so) year old uncle is a great cook who always cooks a very impressive Christmas dinner for his children, grandchildren, and myself.
I aim for the lower carb stuff but also allow myself to have a taste of higher carb things. It's cooked with love, and who knows how long this tradition will last now?
It's easy for me to get back on the wagon the next day. All this food happened in an unusual setting away from home, and after an evening and possibly night of fighting my diabetes, I'm very happy to go back to low carb the next day.

Glad to hear you'll do the Christmas shift! :hilarious:
I'm visiting family so only using my phone for checking blood glucose and to take a couple of pictures. ;)

sort of. little more than normal not a lot more. made a lowish carb cheesecake :) making lasangue without pasta instead using aubergine cut pretty thiny for layers. mince peppers onion garlic beef stock, some chilli, little pasata. soup depending on glucose levels will depend on what i do... making some low carb rolls to go with the soup. likely soup and bit of cheesecake for lunch main meal lasanga and perhaps a second slice of the cheesecake. someone bought me large tub ferrero rocher, if low enough may have one, unless ofc i got it totally wrong, usually pretty good at guessing pressies, feel + size was a giveaway would be willing to place bet brightside some other family members also like those so i'm sure they will glady take a few off my stomach

In the past I always had things like shortbread, Marzipan and chocolate at Christmas time. I didn't want to miss them this year, so ive made low carb shortbread and Marzipan and bought some chocolate from deliciously guilt free. (I have tested them all and all fine on the blood sugar front) These are not normally things I eat now, so It does feel like I am having a day off from my usual diet, but just in a way that won't completely throw me off the low carb wagon!

That said, roast potatoes are a favourite of mine, but ive not had any in 8 months- was planning on having two with my christmas lunch, but am worried I won't stop at two

Sounds like everyone is going to have a fabulous Christmas dinner!
Nothing special here, in fact we won’t be having Christmas dinner until our son arrives on the 26th (highway closures with hazardous driving have been in effect since last Thursday). I have no goodies for me planned. I did experiment with some sweets that were sweetened with sugar alcohols….even though I didn’t spike, my overall sugars went up….and I’m not happy. I may have one Lindt ball

According to Nutracheck 5.6g carb per chocolate.

Yip aware thanks.. hence maybe one will see what happens anyhow. Have been known to eat 2 digestive biscuits with cheese for lunch on the odd occasion 18g rather than a decent lunch. Last time I ate a couple of those was a couple of weeks after bday injected unit extra for 2 at that time was 1:10 insulin to carb ratio back then

Christmas Day I'll try and keep lowish carb - No potatoes but 1 Yorkshire pud (We're having Beef this year). It's Boxing Day I'll let a little loose. Family tradition is Cold bird with real (homemade, deep fried) chips and cold sage and onion stuffing

At the risk of sounding a prig, my diabetes doesn't take days off, so neither will I - it's possible to have delicious food and a little more drink than usual, without waking up the carb monsters - so my indulgent day will be cream in my coffee, a good single malt, red wine with my dinner - we eat in the evening and it will be roast rib of beef with lots of keto-friendly vegetables, and some Montezuma's 100% dark chocolate afterwards - all super-enjoyable, and unthreatening to my health.

Someone after my own heart - the Boxing Day meal is the one I look forward to most, I think it also holds some precious childhood memories too for me. Got have a few homemade pickled onions for me too, not these days though buy them lol
