Good to see you posting @jjraak. So sorry times have been difficult for you but you've come through it as a winner (as the emoji indicates). Apart from Neil, I am fairly isolated here but this forum gives me lots of support and, I feel, real friendship even if at a distance. I hope you can regard me as one of your long distance friends and chat away as much as you like. Maybe, as well, your new leisurely life will allow you to find something new to interest you and give you the fulfillment that work did.A good morning to all.
Life's been hectic of late, and I've been ignoring things I shouldn't be ignoring .
A trip to the doctor's for my missed T2D check up, proves how things have lapsed.
So with a fresh wind in my sails, I determined to do some basic daily tasks to see me through the winter in better order than the last few years .
Fbg yesterday was an inspiring 6.5
I'd missed dinner (not hungry) but was so hungry later I ate way too late in the day.
So 6.5....ill take that thank you .
By way of the 'new me' I spent yesterday with my Steph & her b/f at theirs
Took the car to bushy park (close to them)
And a gentle walk to the lake to watch the ducks & geese etc, while they walked Frankie.
Cold & a tad rainy, but a most enjoyable afternoon .
Just what I needed for my mental health.
Of late full retirement has been a cloud hanging over me... Yeah yeah yeah, I know.
But I needed that social interaction post accident as part of my rehab...in fact I'd go so far as to say it was, apart from the surgeries, the most important part of my recovery...I just didn't know it at the time .
The cloud I refer to, was missing out on that daily contact, with customers I had come to see as friends.
I loved the chit chat and keeping up to date with how they were doing re family etc
However my new boss has made the atmosphere where I work so toxic, I've been forced to take time away from work .
Unlikely I'll be back where I normally work, so taking this extended time off work to evaluate my next steps .
Bonus, if there is one, letting go of old friends has been made easier by his attitude.
I'd already told them all I might be leaving at very short notice, (I had reason to believe for everyone's benefit the best course of action at the next flare up would be to leave the office asap ) and said my goodbyes, passing on my best wishes to them and their families .
But an incident while I was off work made that decision for me .
So with all that out of the way
This moment in time is a test of how well I'll cope being a 'gentleman of leisure'
So far, so good .
Thank for having me back guys
Hope to be a more regular member once more .
A really good idea to e-mail the files to yourself @Annb. I do hate it when tech goes wrong5.3 at 03.00 today.
Frustrating day today. As you will know, I've had a lot of trouble recently with my pc. It didn't help that the old laptop Neil dug out for me decided that even though it was plugged in to the mains, it wouldn't work without an operating battery. The fact that we could no longer buy a replacement battery for it was the reason it had to be abandoned in the first place.
So Neil had to try to get the pc working again without the gadget that should have arrived in the post last Friday, but hasn't yet. I did some work on the reduced capability that he could provide (another story that I've been working on all week). Just about finished (probably within two or three pages of finishing - I was up to page 40) and, trying to save onto a memory stick; it just wouldn't do it. I only had it saved onto the desktop, none of my usual folders being available. Knowing how precarious the pc is at the moment, I wasn't happy about that, so I mentioned to Neil that I would just e-mail it to myself and that way, when I can access my e-mail, I would be able to retrieve it. Oh no. Not good enough. Neil would try to fix it. He jumped in and took over my pc.
We decided that the new Linux software update wasn't any use so we would go back to the old version. That eventually loaded so all should be well. But now it won't recognize my backup disc with all my work for the last 2 years on it. And that is the only place I have all that work. I should have had a 2nd backup, but it failed some time ago. When (if) Neil can manage to get it all back for me, I shall have to find a more secure way of backing up. I've had lots of problems over the years with backups failing. Not only do I not really understand technology, I don't trust it not to fail. That's one of the reasons I don't like AI. It's a machine. It can fail.
At least Neil managed to get my current story back. It's now on a working memory stick and the desktop. But, whether Neil likes it or not, I am about to e-mail the files to myself.![]()
Really great to see you back @jjraak. Good that being a gentleman of leisure is going wellA good morning to all.

Hello old cyber pal and fellow ex motorcyclist, it is amazing how my ex work time got filled up with time for hobbies, tasks etc, but I am fortunate in that I’m not keen on the idiot box!A good morning to all.
