I have been diagnosed with diabetes for a while now.
I take the following medicine
2 tablets of metformin 500mg in the morning and 2 at night. 1 tablet of ramipril 1.25mg and one gliclazide 4pm everyday.
My sugar levels are still around the 8 mark.
How can I improve this or can I go on better medication
Please advice

Who told you that? Regardless of type-insulin therapy, for whatever reason is required in combination with lifestyle changes sometimes regardless of not falling under the type 1 umbrella.

Edit to add....Lower than 8mmol is NOT too low

You can improve your BG readings by lowering your carb intake slightly and/or increasing exercise. This is a far better option than just upping the meds. As Andy said though, levels of 8 are a little high but a good level to start at. Good luck !

As mo said lowering your carb intake a bit can really help.

8 is still a little higher than I would want, so a few less carbs and you may see that decreasing. However if you don't want to do that then I would suggest asking the GP about medicine increases.

Reducing starchy carb intake has a huge affect on blood glucose, do you eat rice, pasta, bread or potatoes, those seem to be the foods which increase my BG's the most. I would not be at all happy with a reading of 8, I try and keep mine around 6, but I'm not on glicazide so don't have the same risk of hypos needing interventions.

Filling in forms! ;)
Hi amjed and welcome :)
I see you are not only taking diabetic meds but also an ACE inhibitor ( ramipril) so I presume that's for your blood pressure? You're actually only on a combination of two diabetic meds, which isn't unusual. For what it's worth I agree with what most of the guys are saying..... 8 isn't too low. You may well feel better if you have a look at your diet and see if you can make adjustments to your carbohydrate intake. It really does help. Lots of good luck :)

Yeah I know around 8 is not good as it should be around 5 or 6.
This diabetes is a family problem my dad had it so am familiar with things.
I just want to reduce my medication but also my blood sugar levels
What if I go on the insulin?

I had a feeling that was what you wanted. I'm type2 insulin dependant. It's ok but insulin isn't the "magic eat what you like treatment" for type 2 diabetics and to keep my blood glucose low I still have to control what I eat. Can I ask why you would prefer to be on insulin?

I agree, it does seem as if you are looking to move to insulin rather than make changes. Easy option I guess and ultimately your choice.

Insulin is not easy ! We can only offer advice. You choose whether to take it or not. Not trying to lecture you as it's your body and your life. Good luck whatever you decide to do !

In the UK you are entitled to a medical exemption certificate which gives free prescriptions. Dental care is not covered, unless you are receiving certain benefits.
