Does anyone here have experience with high fat, low carb diets? I started one just a few days ago. I've been researching info about these diets on the internet. Several sources have said these diets raise the ketones in the bolod stream, which is bad for diabetics. I'm trying this diet (New Mayo Clinic Diet) because it's supposed to help you lose weight real fast, like 10 lbs in 10 days. Can any of you tell me anything about this kind of diet?

what would you like to know, i guess you have a basic idea as you are doing it, the keytone aspect? if you eat few enough carbs your body will stop using carbs/glucose for fuel and switch to using fat as an energy source, this is called ketogenic, you will need to have keytones for this to work properly, if your blood glucose is at a normal level??? then this is perfectly normal, i lchf but am pretty dumb as to the technical stuff so ill let someone with a brain go into the science if you would like to hear it?

lchf is an awesome way to lose weight, reduce blood glucose levels and generally be healthier, its brilliant

loads on it in the low carb diet forum.. yes it is great and l am also a converted high fat low carber.

Well they haven't killed me yet at work so obviously they are not annoyed.

Have you ever had a problem with your blood glucose numbers going up really high?

yes, im diabetic lol but not since going lchf, i did it slowly and my glucose levels went down as the carbs went down

it can take a while for your bgs to reduce, im not sure how long as i did it slowly, what are your numbers like?

The first 2 days my numbers were good in the 103 to 126 range. This morning it was 176! Kinda scared me. That was why I started looking for information about LCHF diets on the internet.

how long have you been diabetic? which type? what foods have you eaten?

I was diagnosed a diabetic in November 2010. Type 2. This is my food list: Breakfast-2 boiled eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 8 oz of grapefruit juice. Lunch-1 hamburger patty, medium green salad, 8 oz grapefruit juice. Dinner- 1 hamburger patty, 1 cup green beans, 8oz grapefruit juice. Same thing every day.

juice is pre digested fruit, it is notorious for bg spikes

you have the exact same thing everyday?

I would look at varying your diet and getting more veg in there broccoli cauliflower and dark green veg also certain white veg. I follow what l was told here at some point. Food that is 5gram/100gram is the aim. You need a varied diet to get the correct nutrients. Look at fish for the protein and get whole meat.

And drink wise look at things like normal fat milk (no low fat foods these often have sugar in) Also crushed foods/fruits are a higher GI than normal of those items.

An excellent book is Carbs And Cals can get it on an App or a book. I have the book but not the pocket one, more in it
