Diabetes, life and all that - personal diary

Morning Pavlos

I am enjoying reading this thread.
Have you any desire to be totally med free?
You seem to be doing really well.

Keep up the good work!

Cara

Enjoying reading your progress Pavlosn. Thanks for the tip - just downloaded pacer and now borrowing daughters dog and heading out to the beach for a brisk walk. Missing my daily swims at the mo but eye still not better so walking is next best thing. Only exercised my jaw yesterday whilst meeting up with two sets of friends for catch up chats so need to get out today ☺️

Some really good findings here Pavlos. thanks for sharing it all with us. My grocery shopping arrives today and I have some better foods for me in it, like Yoghurt and raspberries.
You mentioned above to 'keep it in mind' and that is what I need to do as I'm very forgetful indeed. I'm writing everything down that I learn which I want to apply to my own situation.

Cheers :)

Was 106 mg/dl (5,9mmol/l) two hours after breakfast.

Had a whole wheat Crisprol as a snackImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1392891271.241421.jpg
This is a kind of sesame covered cracker. It is actually made with whole wheat flour baked like any bread cookie allowed to cool, soaked in water and baked again until it is crispy throughout.

Each one has 91 calories, 16 g of carbs and 2g of fibre.

One hour after eating my glucose is 111mg (6,2 mmol) so pretty good for a grain product. I think I read somewhere that when cooked twice after being allowed to cool the chemical composition of carbs such as potato changes into something more diabetes friendly. Maybe the same holds true for crisp rolls!

Hi Cara

While I would love to be on no meds, for now I would settle for being on less meds.

I take medicine for diabetes, statins for high cholesterol ( I have no option as I have familial hypercholesterolemia, an inherited gene defect which means that without statins my cholesterol would be sky high) and also something for treating high blood pressure. So quite a handful!

Apart from anything else, all these cost quite a bid, as I have to pay for all medicine and medical care myself! :-(

Today's lunch tomato soup with one small brown roll ( could only finish about half the soup)ImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1392900937.645320.jpg and salmon sashimiImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1392900970.731468.jpg. Somewhat weird combination I know but that is what I felt like ordering

Is there a YouTube link whereby we could view it... I bet it was lovely :) would have been nice to have seen it :watching:

One hour after dinner and I am at a surprising 85mg/dl (4,8 mmol/l). For some reason I can handle roast potatoes.

If this keeps up I will have lots of ammo to hit my doctor with and I will not wait two weeks to do so.

I am a bit unhappy that he put me on a very high dosage of 3x850 mg of metformin to compensate for the januvia I no longer take. Recommended dosage for metformin is 2000 mg daily ( with max of 3000). I am currently on 2550 daily. I hope to reduce this to 2000 or less. I just need to convince my doctor that it is safe for me to do so!

85mg/dl one hour after dinner is little bit low. Check BG after 1.5 hours. I think you can help with some more carb. You have to watch out Hypoglycemia. (It should not happen during night when you are sleeping)

Good morning from Nicosia

Here's a little sunshine for you all

Fasting level was 88mg/dl (4,9 mmol/l)

An unusually misty morning for us here during my morning walk ( 6km today)

but sun has now broken through

Last night was my father-in-law's 75th birthday so I got to watch the whole family gorge themselves on cake! :-( at least I got to feel all virtuous.

Two eggs and a whole meal toast for breakfast.

Off to the office now

Well done. You're a great inspiration to us here. Loving the sunny photos. Have a great day now :)

Two hours after breakfast, a rather surprisingly high 137mg (7,6 mg).

Possible that I had a liver dump during morning walk as I was 88mg when I set out. Should have had breakfast before not after my walk!

At two and a half hours back to 106mg (5,9 mmol), which is more like it.

It's certainly a fine balancing act, isn't it. Well done.

Inspiring thread and wonderful photos - what a beautiful place to be.

Hi and thank you for posting.
You are right 85mg/dl is low for one hour after dinner. As it turns out at 2 hours I was at 116 mg/dl which is quite normal for me. As I am only on metformin I am not usually at a risk of hypos. I do not want to tempt fate but I do not believe I have had one yet - liver usually comes to the rescue if I am running low!
