rude d/n nurses and being treated like im wierd because im diabetic
just recently because of such a huge weightloss of 5 stone now in 6 months im finding people consently commenting on it asking if im ok ? i dont want to have to tell the world my type 2 story as im still new to it yet. snidy remarks about having cancer and using diet pills making me mad ,, anyone else dealing with this at present ?

Why don't you recommend some really cruddy diet to them saying that it worked for you. This way they know the weight loss was intentional and you can have a lot of fun watching them suffer.

I just tell them I started to NOT stuff as much food in my mouth. If I wish to I then tell them why I changed my life style and then they are in awe because they all know the horror stories portray by the media

Or you tell them No, I haven't cancer yet, only diabetes but this can lead to cancer eventually. Anything more you want to know?

lol i loved talking about it, i tell them how i eat and everyone thinks im insane but thinks "**** i need to lose some weight" the amount of people ive converted is amazing, im single handedly making the world slimmer lol no one really asks any more, but i always knew when someone thought i had cancer as they would talk to me but not mention the weight lol, this is a small price to pay for losing all the weight, well done :)

use it as an aid to raising the money, you need to perfect looking poorly lol maybe some makeup to darken the eyes?

Yep I am a real T2 bore too. ;) It makes others aware and if they are borderline but doing nothing about it how guilty will they feel?! I never knew I had such a ruthless streak in me quite honestly but it's okay to feel a bit superior over some things. Why the hell not? I worked **** hard to get here...and so did you cath! ****** 'em, let's see them do as well when they get to be diagnosed with T2!

I am also a BG bore. Even got some testing their bloods at work

I've just been straight up front with people from the beginning, if they make any comment, although at first it was them just asking 'Rod why are you eating such healthy food?' in the office kitchen area. Then I say why, then about LCHF, and off we go ...

I haven't lost anything like as much as you have, but I have noticeably lost weight, and am quite skinny now. As i spend most of my life in either a bikini or shorts and a vest, there's no hiding place for my boney bits! So I have had comments; not all of which have been entirely complimentary.

I don't feel my lifestyle is anyone's business and have still only told a few people. Nobody else really cares. If someone comments and asks why I have lost weight, I tell them my body wasn't dealing with sugars so well, so I've pretty much given them up, and the weight loss is a bi-product of that action. No lies there. Only one person has said, "You mean, like diabetes", and I have replied, "Yes. Exactly like that.", and moved on.

When I was back in UK in February, my neighbour popped around and asked for my "diet", and what I was going to do with the clothes that have become too big. She left with a précis of a reduced carb diet and a cashmere coat she has apparently always coveted. I had to chuckle.

However you choose to handle it, be secure knowing you are doing something important and good for you and those who matter to you. What others think is irrelevant, and is sometimes based on envy.

If people are interested, I'm more than happy to explain more. Who knows, it might even prevent a friend or colleague from becoming diabetic themselves one day.

I'm always honest an tell people about my diabetes and that I have learned so much about food and diet since diagnosis. I then proceed to tell them that all the stuff about low-fat is nonsense and that carbs are the issue. People are conditioned to high-carb and low-fat and think someone who is 'thin' i.e. the right weight is odd compared with the 'obese' norm. I find people do listen and perhaps some even try reducing their carbs to get back to being 'thin'.
