Where to start. I first had an inkling I may have diabetes a week ago. After lunch I felt dreadful. I was light headed and really tired. I realised I've been feeling really tired, thirsty and going to the toilet a lot for a couple of weeks. On Tuesday I decided to visit my GP. I'd also lost a lot of weight. He sent me for blood tests. Today I returned for the results. I then had to go straight to the diabetes clinic to be put on insulin for the bank holiday weekend. My first reading was 28.1. I asked if this was high! So I've now given myself my first 3 insulin injections. Certainly a day I won't forget. I'm not typical type 1; I'm 46! However my brother was diagnosed type 1 at 40. What more can I say?

Hi Kazzy, welcome to the Forum. That must have been a bit of a shock to you even tho your brother was diagnosed the same. You are probably still reeling from the speed of it all. Ive not long been here myself, just diagnosed type 2 about a week ago, but ive found its a lifeline to come here for advice and support. Im sure you will find the same.

Welcome Jazzy, I was also diagnosed T1 at 46. Bummer eh ? If you have any questions, please ask.

I'm telling myself it's because my body is still behaving 'young'!
Do you know of a good app to record blood sugars? Trying to cut down on the number of things I now have to accommodate in my handbag:0)

Also newly diagnosed with Type 1, quick question when counting Carbs, is it just the carbs that sugar i need to worry about or all the carbs displayed in the nutritional info?

Hi and Welcome. There are many Late onset T1s (LADA) so you are not alone. Do come back with any questions. Ref Lonsdale's question about carb-counting, all carbs matter so take account of all of them, not just sugar, even fat and protein have a small impact but I usually ignore them
