I've only just learned that today!!

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

Today I had
Yogurt and fresh raspberries
Bacon, eggs, mushrooms and 6 homemade deep fried chips with a slice of granary bread and butter
Salmon, cherry tomatoes, mayo and another slice of bread and butter.

Ok folks. Today I need your moral support and firm guidance!

This week I ordered some 'root vegetable mash' as a wee treat for Mr B. The grand plan was that I would virtuously eat 1 spoonful :angelic: While he gallumphed his way through the rest of the bowl.

But they substituted 'la-di-da fancy potato mash with Cornish butter'. :woot:

And I woke up thinking about it, dreaming about it, salivating for it... :wacky:

Obviously, there are two easy solutions - throw it away or force Mr B to eat the lot for breakfast. But realistically that ain't gonna happen (he wants porridge, apparently. The sod).

So... Work with me here.
I have never needed your wonderful community spirit, guidance and pep talking more!!!
Talk me down from this crisis.

Why don't you have a little bit mixed with cauli mash?

Or have loads of meat with it to slow down the spike.

It's bloody hard. Think of that mash as a death sentence and ask yourself if it's really worth it....

You can do it!!!

Following yesterday's revelation that oats aren't that great for me :( I decided to try burgen bread and eggs. Oh my god! It was so good. And these results are good aren't they?

Pre 6.5
Post hour 6.9

Also had coffee with it so I can't blame coffee for yesterday's spike. :(

Bye bye muesli!

On a positive note, dropping that option means a reduction in at least 30g of carbs.....

can you not split the spud thing in half and freeze it? It'll probably say not suitable for freezing, but you freeze mash on top of fish pies and shepherds' pies so can't see why it wouldn't work. Or make into potato cakes and freeze them so Mr B can have one when he's sick of porridge? Or make it into a topping for a fish or chicken "pie" and bung it in freezer out of reach until there's a day Mr B has to make his own dinner. Or feed it to the dog.
I don't know how much it would spike you, but it must be a bit for you to need support , so really the bin is the best place if none of above would work.

You do realise the eggs will have slowed down absorption. Have you done a 2hr test? However, I have poached eggs on toast for lunch quite often and am fine with it. (one slice granary)

You can also get it in Tesco x
Sadly no coconut oil in our local Tesco as it is only a metro. Nor our local sainsburys :( The amazon stuff (Lucy Bee) is good value with free delivery. The jars are very nice too so will used them as nut storage jars when finished :)

@Brunneria Fancy potato mash? That's a dilemma. Another vote for freezing. Divide into Mr B sized portions. If you have a sharpie pen and are feeling creative, you could draw a skull and crossbones on each container to remind you what is inside. Then scoff a big pile of the cheesiest, creamiest, cauliflower mash to reward your good behaviour :angelic:

@ bluetit. Yes I tested at two hours and got 5.4 so happy days.

I'll not have the bread every day nor eggs but will swap around with bacon and sausages.

This is all getting very expensive!

They may be sugar-free, but still carb laden, if the package I read were anything to go by.
But the carbs are mainly from polyols which dont affect blood sugar.......I believe.

They are sainsburys own brand and dont affect my BG.

Crisis temporarily over!

I exercised my persuasive whiles (wiles? Whirlies?) and took His Bness out for brekkie. Much better than stodgy yucky boring porridge.

Am now so stuffed with fry up that buttered mash seems but a distant dream... :hungry:

And the fact he is leaving me alone in the house with the mash for the whole of his work shift today (2-9) is of supreme indifference to me :nailbiting:

I will be strong... I will be strong... I will be strong...

Well thought out strategy @Brunneria. Love your thinking. While you are stuffed up with delicious fry up, why not throw the mash out for the birds? They will appreciate it.

Ha! I know your game! 'Throw it out for the birds' you say, while sitting up there in your bush, eyeing my mash! You... You... Bluetit, you!

It's mine I say!
Mine!
It won't get my precious (mash) - it won't!
My precious...
