..hi to all, you're early birds this morning!

@Scandichic, hope your cholesterol settles down, I've only ever been told the overall result, will make sure I ask for the good and the bad next time. @Pipp, make sure you have some R and R as well as exercise on your holiday and @zand, pleased you're getting back on track..

....I was going to walk to Hythe yesterday via the seafront as I had a half day, its about 4 miles, and get the bus back but in the end walked halfway there and back instead, same distance! Soo hot, all I could think about was a huge iced drink on the way back....was it alcoholic, I'm not saying...;)
Hey @Pollylocks
R and R? I took that to mean Rock and Roll! None of that but made do with Rum and Raucous laughter last night.
Exercise is part of my daily forever now. So as it is raining I might make that journey to the swimming pool again. I hate getting wet in the rain, but perversely don't mind at all in the swimming pool.

Don't forget you can get them to print full details of past tests.

Thanks, I think I will, as from reading in here the overall result doesn't mean too much, want to find the results of what makes it up..:)

10 mins to walk to docs and back! Hba1c down from 42 to 38 - doc happy!
Doc not happy about cholestrol!
Bad cholestrol gone from 4.5 to 6 but good at 1.3.
Cholestrol 7.3!
Agreed to retake statins till next hba1c to see if makes any difference.
If it doesn't then stopping!
Wants me to up protein and reduce fat. Shan't because how will I know if there was a reduction if it was the tablets or lowering of fat.
Concerned about how bad they are! :(
30 min walk to tescos express and back.
Great HbA1c result! :-). Especially as you have had bouts of illness.

My cholesterol had gone up and someone here said that can happen initially when weight is being lost.

Thanks for all your support.

Sorry but the exercise I got yesterday was an amble around the shops in my town :-(

My daughter lectured me about that too! She said I do too much.

I'm cutting her some slack, only because she suffers badly with anxiety. I won't be discussing what I get up to, with her, any more.

Good plan peacetrain, tell us all what you are up to instead. I'm having to be a little careful who I tell too.

@Scandichic Not sure what you eat exactly, ( I know it's low carb) but maybe replace some of the saturated fat with monounsaturated fats like olive oil, nuts and avocados? Mine was higher than they like to see last time but one GP said controlling BS should help it. the other wanted me on statins, so while I am doing low carb, I've been careful with my fats. Though I think the jury is out on the role of saturated fat and dietary cholesterol in cholesterol formation- just wading through the latest attack on diet-heart disease bestseller. There is a link from the diet doctor's site to an article on improving cholesterol whilst on LCHF for what the person refers to as a minority of people who see elevated levels following standard plan.

I was going to say something similar.
When I was diagnosed in November my final cholesterol number was 5.4. I hadn't been on this website at that time and as I had been a pizza, bread and cheese addict, not a smidge of cheese passed my lips from then. I rarely drank milk because I've always had tea and coffee black, no sugar. I didn't eat any butter and very little margarine either because never put spread on sandwiches. I also never eat red meat. I began to eat a lot of salmon, stir fries, olive oil, olives. By February my cholesterol had reduced to 4.5.

By February I had found this site and then began adding butter, cheese and more eggs to my diet. May cholesterol had gone up to 5.5.
So, now I've taken butter off the menu because I'm quite happy to use olive oil, as I did before. I have 2 eggs a day, but wonder if that's too many for me personally. I eat a lot of oily fish and sometimes chicken. I've also continued with nuts: hazel, walnut, almond, brazil and sometimes macadamia. I've been having different linseed mixes since February and put it in my yoghurt and omelettes. I had cuts out the oats because of the bg but I sometimes have them - about 15g.
I guess we are all different and have to tweak and find what's best for us.

But all in all @Scandichic you're doing so well with your bg.

Actually... I just want to cry now because I don't know what I would do if I couldn't come here. Well done all you other "obsessed" diabetics. Xxxxxxxxxxxx

Aw Sorry,@connie104 I do go on about swimming and pool exercise as it is the only sort that doesn't hurt me to do. Also I stayed away from the pool for 15 years because I was stressed, busy, putting other people first with no time for me, and also very self conscious of being the fattest person in there. never again will I allow that to happen to me.

Yes peacetrain I echo those sentiments. It's good to be obsessed together in a place where being obsessed is 'normal'.

I've always used low fat products, not been keen on butter and cooked with olive oil so all I've done with the high fat bit is have a bit of cheese ( though I cook with low fat stuff still) at bedtime but only if I have burned the equivalent calories off on the bike. I do eat red meat, but buy lean mince, serve smaller portions- I still take skin off my chicken and cut fat off bacon so I guess I am not really high fatting at all. I think the danger with the HF element is that people feel deprived having cut out carbs so think great I can eat fat so I'm going for it big time. Looking at the diet doctor's plate of steak and sauce on his video, he may be having a fatty sauce, but the meat looks pretty lean and there aren't huge portions of anything on that plate. I think sometimes we have to use our common sense and tweak things to suit us.

Thank you.
I drink: black tea or coffee, water and a little white wine at week ends.
Brekkie: 2 97% meat sausages and a poached egg
Lunch: 2 baby bels
Snack: handful of peanuts
Dinner: salad, greens, lentils and fish or meat.
Sometimes quiche, bean bake or fish soup
Dessert: LCHF ice cream or choc mug cake - twice a week.
Choccie: 3 squares of green and blacks dark.
Not huge amounts of fat! Don't eat huge platefuls either.

Apart from the sausages, I don't eat red meat. I mostly eat salmon, sea bass, chicken breast, salad, green veggies, bean bake, lentils and crust less crab quiche. I don't have huge portions. Baby bel x2 at lunch plus a handful of peanuts and dessert (either mug cake or my ice cream) twice a week.my salads consist of cucumber, cherry toms, olives, avocado, peppers and feta.
Am going to carry on as normal, take the statins and see if there's a difference. If not, I'm not going to continue with the statins as no point.
By the way, I am also thankful to this website and the very lovely people on it! We are the lucky ones so don't be sad!

Ah, I feel good. 45 mile round trip to pool. Alas, in car but would love to have cycled there. 55 mins swimming and stretching and splashing about.

Sounds lovely! :)

Only a 45min cycle in the end - blew myself up trying to keep up with hubby! (Having a pesky cold might have had something to do with it!)
