Hi folks my name is John.Im pre diabetic and the diabetic nurse wants me to go for a Glucose tolerance test to prove it once and for all if i am or not diabetic.My GP swears i am deffo diabetic type 2.Nurse corrected him there and said it cant be proved from a simple blood test.So ill find out who is right and wrong by going to have the test.In the meantime the nurse says it wouildnt do any harm to change my lifestyle diet etc.Not as easy as it sounds lol.I dont like Vegatables for start well only Peas and Potato's. Anybody any ideas as to what sort of diet is best.I could do with loosing a couple of stones im currently a good 3 to 4 stones over weight according to BMI.Im a carer for my wife so dont often get chance to go out for a walk except when we go out twice per week i then get excersise pushing the wheelchair.Anyways thats a brief introduction to yours truely.On with reading the forum now and see if i can pick some tips up etc

Ah right i know my BS wasnt high enough to be classed as definate diabetes.I cant remember what figures the nurse quoted now but she said it was below diabetes.Good Luck with you tests etc.

Br careful with the Metformin it damned near wiped my wife out in 2009.Her kidneys were in danger of packing up and a team from the Intensive care unit were running about like headless chucks.She was already on the medical ward having been admitted with urine infection.They found out it was metforin that was causing the problems and immediatly took her off it.

Heart disease is rife in my family also; almost every member either died of heart attacks or (those still alive) had heart surgery.

I'm F/55 - from Chicago, IL USA - my BF (M/57) is a diabetic and I wanted to learn some coping techniques when he gets angry due to low blood sugar...
I'm deeply religious - he is not,,,
No one in my family has diabetes - so this is my first time dealing at such a personal level. I'm having a heard time discerning between low blood sugar anger and straight up abuse... Any suggestions?
He is a great guy - I have known him 30 yrs - but only in a relationship for a few months - he was diagnosed 10 yrs ago (I lost touch with him prior to this) - Normally he is hilarious and sweet - but when his blood sugar is low - he is angry and mean-spirited (picking fights and threatening to leave me) - It's very hurtful - in my intelligent mind - I know this is low blood sugar - but it's very hard to be exposed to this.
Any suggestions on how to NOT take this so personally?
